On the side where the gates are, the elves are initially friendly to the player, until a script is triggered in which they begin to aggro at the player and henchmen. Perhaps, when placing those trolls, the developers somehow accidentally tied their behavior to the one that the ghosts had, or the room itself is a big crutch, where the creatures are friendly before the script is activated. Well, about why the script does not work, then most likely this is due to the fact that by that time the location was cleaned, because of which the sequence of scripts is violated and the script for the aggregate does not work.
