Blacksmith upgrade on Playstation 3 (Diablo 3)

I'm playing act 4 and reached level 30 on normal difficulty. Please help me understand the mechanics of leveling a blacksmith. I have the disc with the original Diablo 3 without any updates and additions. Rested on the fact that I can not pump the blacksmith to level 5. There are not enough pages that, as it turned out, fall from higher difficulty levels. But one friend who plays reaper of souls with all the updates says that the blacksmith has not been downloading pages for a long time, but only gold. Is it true? Should I update something?
