Gameplay Weaknesses - Difficulty, Magnetism, Sewerage, Control
As a preface, I want to say that from the very beginning I entered the game on the "Realistic" difficulty. I don't know if it's worth trying this difficulty after your dude has been fully upgraded, but I tried it anyway. It seems to me that the difficulty of the game so far is solely due to the fact that I do not know if the enemy magnetism will make the guy flinch in the open air or instantly slam him right into my bars. It is also difficult to appreciate your own magnetism. Even with the ranged attack skill, I can find myself waving in the open because the guy I'm facing can step back as fast as I'm walking forward, even if he's carrying a big box.
On the sewer level, I found myself rolling all over the damn place because everyone has a gun, so blocking is almost impossible, and the dark vignette covering the edges of the screen further obscures an already uneven view of what is happening. Rat King really is an example of how to animate enemy attacks incorrectly: the dude freezes, and then swings at the speed of light. Maybe he will sway in place, or maybe he will fly towards me from behind the screen at the speed of light. The action relies so heavily on button prompts to tell you what's going on that turning them off practically makes you blind.
It would be nice if there was a dodge feature that didn't make me move around the entire Dark Souls arena, but perhaps juke in place so I could keep attacking. Also, having to move means enemies will roll up to me or run as fast as they can, and their stupid push they do if they get too close seems to take precedence over anything you can do. If they start pushing, you are guaranteed to lose control for a moment. It didn't kill me, but it's very annoying in a game where you have to get close and hit people. They can just say no to my attack and I'll lose control for a second.
So far, I like it, but I think that some changes can turn a good game into a great one.
