A long time ago in a far, far ... Greece, ordinary Greeks for a variety of their leisure took and invented a theater, which later became the favorite entertainment of all mankind for many millennia. At that time, strong heroes in the literal sense of "sword and magic" were in vogue on the stage (as, indeed, now), however, magic in the usual sense of the word was replaced by a personal deity, because in the Greek pantheon, these same gods were like cockroaches.

And so, when the valiant hero found himself in the most hopeless situation, when there was nothing to hope for, like a bolt from the blue, this very deity appeared to him. Yes, yes, in its most natural form, it came down lively, on ropes, onto the stage and with its pompous appearance either destroyed all the intrigues of the sufferer, or threw wooden lightning arrows at the foe, thereby marking the long-awaited intermission, because all performances in the Greek theater took place in real time.

And then one day, at one of these performances, one ancient Greek exclaimed "Deus Ex Machina!" literally "God from the car", since then it has become a custom to call this first theatrical special effect with a similar term. To be honest, such a "trick" seemed to be too tempting for subsequent theatrical (and not only) authors. It even got to the point that after millennia, on the eve of the long-awaited millennium, Her Majesty's history repeated its cycle, and we again witnessed (and what!) This very Deus Ex, but this time on the screen of our monitors. We must fairly pay tribute to this magnificent game, which at one time (and even now can do it with ease) millions of players to their game universe, in which they were looking for that very "God from ..." but somehow everything is useless: either there was no God, or they were looking in the wrong place; It was not for nothing that the developers gave us a second chance, which, unfortunately, did not shed light on this dark story anymore.

And at this time, in the glorious city of Yekaterinburg, a young, but already quite experienced team of Targem developers, after a long brainstorming session, came to a truly ingenious decision, it turns out this very Deus, he is "Ex Machina!" And without postponing the matter indefinitely, the guys decided to make the dream of all mankind come true, and even if they don't promise us any Deus, but these same Machin will be, well, just heaps! Apparently, the people of Yekaterinburg are a little tired of their fantasy world, which they have embodied in pretty good (albeit with some flaws) games from the "Magic of War" series. In short, more than a year and a half ago, a new game development was launched, which received such a sacramental name ExMachina.

Especially for those who have already combed their pens and lit up their eyes, I will briefly inform you that the developers forge in the bowels of the Targem studio for us a funny mixture, roughly defined as action / racing / RPG, the whole action of which will unfold in the vastness of our beloved in the last after the release of Fallout, of course) being a post-apocalyptic world. Where the player will first have to survive, then it would be nice to get a little rich and somehow arrange his life, and for the most patient, persistent and successful the creators of the game have in store (can't it be ?!) the salvation of this world. By the way, we actually have to deal with racing on heavy trucks, hung from top to bottom with machine guns, cannons, radars and rocket launchers. Well, now you can, without haste, savor all the interestingness and beauty declared by our compatriots.

Something with something

I'll make a reservation right away that the gaming universe that takes place in ExMachina is not unique in its kind, because its roots can be traced both in Hollywood film production and in the PC entertainment industry. If in the first case, the famous film Mad Max with Mel Gibson in the title role immediately pops up in the memory, then among games of the same theme or various elements of gameplay, you can see Fallout itself, and Elite, and domestic "Vangers", and even "Truckers "! You understand that with such and such a legacy, it is a sin not to do something good, otherwise there will be more than enough people who want to do something "bad". On the one hand, there is scope for the flight of creative thought (and what a lot!), On the other hand, there is a great responsibility to the players, and to fellow competitors,

So, we will have a real (no jokes) post-apocalyptic world of the future, which, judging by the plot of the game, is waiting for us almost tomorrow. The fact is that exactly in 2017 (they quickly looked at the calendar and thought out all the plans, otherwise it will be too late!) Some mysterious catastrophe will occur, as a result of which all of humanity will die in a matter of hours, therefore, of course, no more or no one will have time to make a less sensible description of what happened. And now, after 223 years, the player will be directly obliged to enter this completely inhospitable world in order to start his own happy or not very (this is how lucky) existence in it.

We will find a completely new Earth, slowly, slowly reviving after that unfortunate disaster, when the surviving handfuls of people will fearfully come to the surface from their shelters in order to found new cities and countries, and try to return the secrets of the disappeared civilization, because the prospect of reinventing the wheel does not seem rosy to anyone. History repeats itself at its next turn of development anew: people are more bold to stray into cruel robber clans, and the most adventurous - into trade unions, and everything would be fine, but the development of a new civilization on the ruins of the old is impossible without various ties between the newly emerging cities: commercial, industrial etc.

Therefore, it is in this troubled time that the profession of a truck driver becomes both one of the most respected and the most dangerous of the existing ones. I hope you guessed what exactly the player will earn his labor post-apocalyptic ruble ?! Exactly - cargo transportation, which is so necessary for cities, and smugglers, and auto-pirates (there are also such people), and just bandits from the big highway. According to the developers, the player will not be at all deprived of the attention of all these representatives of the local fauna, which in some particularly tricky places will literally fall on you and me from the sky. The very same system of cargo delivery, trade and everything connected with this will be very reminiscent of the masterpiece of past years - the game Elite, because in ExMachina the vehicle will also be an interesting hybrid of a trade cart with an armory.

Native places

Speaking of "places". The world that we will meet promises to be NOT small at all, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Yekaterinburg residents promise to provide us with more than one hundred kilometers of space, in which there will be hints of roads remaining from the time of the disappeared civilization; various obstacles, both technogenic and natural; there will be real mountains of their own; wide but lifeless plains; Deserts scorched by UV rays, with half-decayed corpses and rusty carcasses; and also quite traditional, but not devoid of their post-apocalyptic zest, swamps, jungles, forests, etc.

And all these geographical wonders can (and should) be visited, not for fun, but in the hope of saving the world, and finding, digging out, taking away a couple of valuable trinkets for yourself ... The "absolute freedom" longed for by many players will be present , naturally limited by the framework of common sense, because chasing for half an hour from one side of the map to the other just to find out the market news, a la X2: The Threat, in my opinion, is boring to the point of impossibility. The plot of the game will be written in such an unpretentious logical way that you simply will not get to some places, either, without completing some important quest or task, or you will not get through the efforts of auto-pirates, who are passionate about organizing ambushes, minefields and others in every possible way. " warm friendly meetings ".

Separately, I would like to mention not only the "geo", but also the graphic latitudes of the ExMachina game being prepared in the bowels of the Ural Mountains. What personally surprised me enormously was the quality of the picture displayed on the screen already at this stage of the development of the project, which, let me remind you, will be nominally fated to come out only in November this year. Look at the screenshots and "feel the difference" in the graphic quality of ExMachina and most of the domestic game projects that are currently being prepared for publication. Considering the genre and general style of the game, such interesting graphics can be a pleasant surprise for players whose PC is already saturated with all the newfangled "iron" trends, or unpleasant, if there are no such trends in your system, as they say, draw conclusions.

Of, perhaps, the most remarkable features of the game engine, significantly modified since the "Magic of War", it is worth noting the excellent drawing of the sky already now, green grass swaying in the wind (you must agree, without this, nowhere!) And absolutely correct reflections of everything that happens nearby in the smooth surface of local lakes and rivers. Pixel shaders 2.0 and the DirectX 9.0c software package will be used to implement these beauties, which in many respects significantly enliven the game space, from here you can calculate the approximate strength that will be needed to make all this work not only beautifully, but also quickly.

And as a "grand piano in the bushes", the developers also have in store a lot of destructible objects in the game, a fairly well-developed damage system, animation of all living things using ragdoll technology, and of course, bump and environment mapping! It is hoped that its own engine and experience with it will allow the Targem team to get rid of unnecessary unplanned brakes and other incidents.

Go!

Well, as a dessert, a little excursion into the automotive component of the future game. As you understand, one in the field is not a warrior, therefore, you will always come to your aid ... no, not a friend (what friends can there be in this world? This is not The Sims for you), but your faithful steel, aluminum, cast iron (from what have already been collected) a truck that looks more like a fortress on wheels than an ordinary car for transporting goods. A total of five "trucks" will be available in the game, completely different from each other, both in their liking and in appearance.

The developers promise not to leave anyone unattended: for true adherents of rally racing, there will also be a lightweight analogue of a bizarre cross between a buggy and a pickup, well, and for those who like to shoot big from the same large-caliber weapon, there will also be a real auto-mastodon, reminiscent of a mining dump truck type of the Belarusian BelAZ.

And don't be confused at all by the suspiciously small number of trucks in the game, because, according to the creators of ExMachina, in some certain cases it will be possible to get into the wheel of other equally exotic vehicles-destruction. Naturally, without the opportunity to improve the technical characteristics of your combat vehicle quite a number of times, the developers simply could not leave us, because in that case the game would look very dreary. Considering that the main character in the game will still be ... a truck, then the role-playing elements declared by the developers will also relate exclusively to the characteristics of this very truck. Although, I think, such parameters as "willpower" or "charisma" would look good as attributes of a truck of such a gloomy future.

Especially for lovers of post-apocalyptic truck tuning, the Targem team has stocked up about thirty different types of weapons attached to your steel monster literally everywhere - even on the roof, at least under the bottom. At the same time, the truck upgrade system will make up two full-fledged lines: equipping the body for greater capacity or safety of the transported goods, or stuffing the former truck with various weapons until it becomes more like a hedgehog, bristling with a dozen of its trunks in all directions of the world. There will also be in the game such a sweet little thing as gasoline, which always runs out, and for which it would be prudent to sprinkle an additional tank instead of another gun.

Naturally, all newly appeared on the body of your cargo pet "growths" will be displayed in the most honest way, eventually break and fail, or simply become obsolete, because Without worries about the regular technical equipment of the truck in the nearest car service (which, by the way, still has to be reached), there is nothing to do in this game. For all this, the physical model, albeit not entirely true, but quite accurate for such games, will be responsible, which will delight the eye with all sorts of bullet holes, sparkling wiring, crumpled radiator grilles and even punctured tires.

Therefore, at the first such symptoms, it is still recommended to wrap up in the nearest town where there is a workshop, because then such a chance may not be presented, because the evacuation rescue system (a local analogue of the 911 service) does not work at all free of charge, and subscribers from contaminated or radioactive zones are simply ignored, as they say, "my own dear". And if we consider that we can have only one truck at our disposal, then the need to take care of it no longer seems like empty fun of extravagant developers.

Bend our fingers

Considering the remoteness of the Targem studio from the world stream of advertising pre-game hype, one can hope for, albeit not so flashy, but painstaking and thorough work on our undoubtedly interesting project ExMachina. This means that we will be able to see:

* A bit worn out already post-apocalyptic world, but with its own original features and oddities.
* Five menacing trucks, fully customizable and upgradable to your liking.
* About thirty types of various weapons for the massive (and not so) destruction of everything.
* An entertaining plot with the search for artifacts of an extinct civilization.
* Big game world constantly interacting with you.
* Objectively beautiful graphics that require revision of plans for the upcoming upgrade of your system.
* A logical trading system in the best features of games like Elite.

Therefore, we are waiting for ExMachina and do not turn off the engines!

Here is a preview from Igromania:

Targem Games handed over the dragons to junk and started to create a car action game Ex Machina.

On the territory of one-sixth of the part, the post-apocalypse theme is somewhat unhealthy. Ash-gray mushrooms of the next “fallouts” bloom here and there. In addition to the ubiquitous "Stalker", which has already been firmly imprinted on the retina, in Russia and neighboring countries

several dozen similar projects seem to be under development. Irkutsk studio "Horns and Hooves" threatens us with a planetary cataclysm (displacement of the earth's crust, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods and other amenities) in its upcoming RPG "Phase: Exodus". In the bowels of Cyberworks Studio, work is in full swing on another "Exodus" - also an RPG, also post-apocalyptic, but without the "Phase" prefix. G5 Software in the strategy "Caribbean Crisis" threatens an already man-made apocalypse, showing what would have happened if Khrushchev and Kennedy had lost their nerves in their time. A more pessimistic forecast is put forward by the creators of Soul Gate: according to their version, humanity has become extinct in the future, and the planet has been populated by animate robots. artOFF GAMES is poring over the shooter NETWARZ — and also (you guessed it?) post-apocalyptic.
If we add to all this and projects that did not live up to release (for example, MMORPG Cyber: Post

The answer, apparently, is in the affirmative: recently the Yekaterinburg firm Targem Games joined the slender ranks of the fallautists with ... a post-apocalyptic car action game Ex Machina.

No longer oatmeal
About Targem Games heard about a year and a half ago, when they released their first project - a fantasy strategy "War Magic: Shadow of the Lord". At first, the audience just incredulously poked at her with a fork (“Fi, it's fantasy again!”), But, having tasted it, was delighted and began to tuck in on both cheeks. The plot really turned out to be too cloying, but the public still demanded more - and at the end of last year, the developers presented a dish with a richly served add-on "War Magic: Banners of Darkness". Now it was time to move on, and Targem took on a new dish - Ex Machina. This time - with the smell of gasoline and the taste of burnt rubber.

According to culinary experts, not earlier than in 2017, our world will be covered with a copper basin, and most of humanity will go to meet with the Almighty. We are entering the game 223 years later as a driver transporting a wide variety of goods from one settlement to another. Along the way, he must unravel who killed his family, and find out that the real culprits of the cataclysm that happened on Earth were not people, but ... aliens. For greater mystery, the protagonist is dressed in an iron mask, which he will remove only at the very end, when the main intrigue is revealed. Or maybe he won't - there are two endings in the game at once.
Since the state and authorities have disappeared without a trace, a complete chaos is going on outside the cities: everyone is at war with everyone, the population moves exclusively in cars, hung with armor and the most powerful weapons, and farmers plow the fields in the remote semblance of tanks. This, alas, does not apply to us - at first our car pulls only for the "honorary" title of a bucket with bolts, but more powerful samples will become available, which can also be improved. Amenable to upgrading weapons, the protection of the machine, its maximum speed and

acceleration, plus a color scheme (plus the logo of the clan you joined, if you decided to cooperate with someone at all). They won't let you hang up the upgrades indefinitely - the number of slots for them in each car is strictly metered. But those that are there are enough head over heels: the most “rocked” cars in full configuration are simply not recognizable - the driver's cabin looks like a loophole with narrow slots, rockets and machine guns bristle in all directions, something like the Grad installation is installed on the roof ”. I fire a volley, the missiles soar into the air and a second later they land on opponents, throwing dust and debris into the air for several tens of meters. Those of the Buka employees who have not yet seen the game in action (they were standing behind me) freeze in amazement and immediately burst into a storm of enthusiasm - the spectacle really creeps through.

Having dealt with the local punks, I again taxi to the road and head for the nearest city - several buildings on a hill, surrounded by strong walls and with turrets on top (which diligently shoot uninvited guests). Inside there is a workshop for repairing and upgrading cars, a gas station (yes, the car also wants to eat, and if you don't feed it on time, it will get up halfway) and a bar - a traditional place to meet with NPCs and look for new quests. Having taken the assignment and along the way, taking with me a girl in some kind of rattle car that was hanging around the gate, I leave the city and head towards the navigation beacon. A silhouette of a certain combat vehicle appears in front of me, I begin to aim, but then the game producer stops me. “Not all cars on the road are a threat,” he explains. Except for the bandit clans attacking everyone and everything, on the roads of Ex Machina, there are many peaceful traders like me now. Peaceful, however, with one caveat: they immediately respond to aggression with fire from barrels of all calibers. By the way, you can also join the bandits and rob the speculators with them.

I leave the businessman alone and move on. Having passed some settlement, I find myself between two fields with hemp crops (!). Flashes of shots appear around the car - an ambush! There are significantly more opponents - and they are better armed - there are almost no chances of victory. The partner who got involved in a fight with someone is stuck far behind, and you can no longer count on her help. Machine-gun bursts shoot holes in the body of the car, fire starts to break out from under the hood, the wheels go in "eights" - a little more and the end. But ... what is it? The scumbag, who has worked harder than anyone else, suddenly flies into the air, and his comrades turn their attention to someone else. This “someone else” turns out to be the same girl I picked up in the city. But how did she get here so quickly? Seeing the misunderstanding on my face, the Bukovites come to the rescue: if a friend gets stuck somewhere along the road and cannot get out in any way, after a while he will be teleported not far from the player. Well, that's reasonable.

This, apparently, is what remains
of Greece.
Together, we finish off the remnants of the enemies, collect the belongings left from them (the weapon that was installed on the cars of the criminals) and already without incident we get to the desired place. I look at the price list of the local store and I am surprised to note that local prices are noticeably different from those in the first city. Everything is correct and intended, they explain to me. To make good money on transportation, the player must constantly monitor the market, buy goods where it is cheaper, and take them to where it is more expensive. Prices are automatically recorded in the logbook when visiting a settlement, to make it easier for the player to plan their actions. Some kind of post-apocalyptic Freelancer turns out, honestly.
The illusion of a living, somewhere constantly moving world is supported by radio communications. The air is never quiet, all the time someone asks for help, someone swears with someone, someone threatens someone, someone is busily discussing something with someone. Contextual music changes depending on the situation - it was just calm, and as soon as the shootout begins, it immediately picks up the tempo. Under the hood of Ex Machina, the almost completely rewritten "Magic of War" engine hums. It is almost impossible to recognize him - the schedule leapt forward so much. Actually, you yourself see everything - the screenshots are in front of you.

Split in 60 seconds
With combat vehicles at the center of the game with tons of weapons on board, Targem went to great lengths to create a convincing damage model. The vehicles are made up of separate units and parts, for each of which the damage is calculated separately. The impact of bullets and shells is directly displayed on the model of the car. A battered car is a miserable sight: the body is bent, bullet holes, soot spots are everywhere, the wheels wobble so that it seems they are about to fall off. Trees, pillars, fences and other not very strong structures can be knocked down by an explosion or from being hit by a speeding car. Ragdoll pedestrians cheerfully wind on wheels, but they flatly refuse to be torn to pieces and, what is even more distressing, to bleed. So to arrange something like Carmageddon, alas, will not succeed.

Car park
There are about ten types of cars in the game. Each species has many varieties thanks to interchangeable cabins, bodies and weapons. According to their purpose, all vehicles can be divided into several categories - military, trucks and cars, designed to perform some special tasks. Military vehicles will also be available only occasionally, the rest of the time the player moves exclusively by trucks. Again only subject to modernization. And finally - briefly about the coolest cars Ex Machina. Just keep in mind - the names of the machines are working.

Light truck, loved by wealthy farmers and stingy traders for its good price-quality ratio. More serious citizens do not like this model - it is not sufficiently protected.

Ural / Camion
“Ural” is usually chosen by successful Buratins - this machine is perfectly balanced in terms of carrying capacity and weapons. It has twice the gas tank and hit points of its predecessor and is also the fastest truck ever.

BelAZ / Belaz
Truck of monstrous carrying capacity. According to the developers, in the world of Ex Machina at “BelAZ” you can get rich in just a couple of flights. But the chances are even greater that you will never deliver your cargo - even despite the powerful armor - BelAZ is too tasty prey for road pirates.

Peacemaker / Juggernaut
No other vehicle carries such a stock of weapons as the Peacemaker carries. For this, however, it was necessary to sacrifice the carrying capacity, but the result is worth it. The number of hit points and the fuel supply is again higher than that of BelAZ (just like BelAZ's characteristics are two times higher than that of Ural). For “Peacemaker” (as well as “BelAZ” and “Ural”), the game has 5 removable bodies, the rest of the cars have only three of them.

The Russian gaming industry has one oddity: we have a heck of complex turn-based strategies, furious tactical action games, realistic simulations and fancy RPGs, but we have almost no arcades - bright, juicy, lightweight arcades for people who do not have the time or desire (or that and the other together) to understand the intricacies of the "Operation Silent Storm" combat system, memorize hundreds of shortcuts in "IL-2" and replay the same level several times in "ALPHA: Anti-Terror". Don't get me wrong: Operation Silent Storm, IL-2, and ALPHA: Anti-Terror are good, worthy games. But this is pure hardcore, where you need not rest, but work. The niche of simple, unobtrusive relaxation games is empty. And this is exactly what projects like Ex Machina should fill.

Review of the alpha version from http://www.sferamm.ru

One hour of adventure in the world of "Ex Machina"

Author's note: We considered a technological demo version (pre-pre-alpha), by the time the game is released, a lot can change, of course, for the better.

My friend and I, the truck

"Elite on Wheels", "Vangers in 3D", "Mad Max on the Computer" - as soon as we have not had time to christen the new development project of Yekaterinburg game developers - Targem Games. Let's not hang loud labels, but try to figure out what the mysterious project "Ex Machina" really is.

At the beginning of the game, you are greeted with a short introductory video. The camera flies around a small farm in the middle of a lifeless (I think it is also radioactive) wasteland. The clan elder, wrapped in rags in the manner of the Fremen from the work of Frank Herbert, pushes the protagonist with a short opening speech: “Go, chosen one, and deliver a load of potatoes to the neighboring urban-type village. But be careful, beware of the wheeled pirates! " Your first vehicle is destined to be a small, rusty pickup truck with a multi-barreled rotary machine gun on the roof. The question arises, why did an ordinary potato businessman need such a dangerous thing as a large-caliber machine gun? You will find the answer in the second minute of your journey.

The fact is that the world of "Ex Machina" is cruel and extremely dangerous. Local criminals will take their lives for a bucket of sweet potatoes without hesitation. On the way to the regional center, motivated by a thirst for profit, two small crooks ambushed me on nimble, lightly armored SUVs (unfortunately, I did not remember the state number). Due to the lack of nearby law enforcement forces, they had to lynch the criminals with the aforementioned machine gun. During the shootout, I appreciated the cool decall system (bullet holes) and superb visual effects. Separately, I was pleased with the cruel electronic-metal chopper, which accompanied the whistle of bullets, the roar of guns and the crackle of enemy plating. To my deep satisfaction, the machine guns they were actively using and the cargo being transported - firewood - fell out of the destroyed vehicles. Oh,

I just wanted to attach a second gun to the truck tightly, and think: "I will treat a friend," but a slight disappointment awaited me. The family pickup did not have a slot for an additional weapon. The Munchkin thought of the need for an upgrade flashed through my mind. Fortunately, the destination was already close, which was signaled by a very convenient compass.

The settlement welcomed travelers with open arms. Here you have a spare parts store, a bazaar, a car dealership, and a truckers bar. Having sold the trophies I had won, I went to the tavern in search of new friends and adventures. Both of them were more than enough. I easily found a job as a caravan escort, although other options were offered. For example, find and punish a former trucking union member.

We did not even have time to drive a couple of kilometers when, to my greatest regret, my companion, who is also the object of protection, died from a stray line in a sudden firefight. The circumstances were aggravated by the fact that a stray line flew out of the barrel of my own weapon. Thus, in an instant, I disgraced myself as a bodyguard and introduced myself to the status of a non grata person among the local warriors of the roads. At the very first meeting, the drivers of the town avenged me for my comrade in arms, blowing up a pickup truck that I fell in love with. The game was over.

The rest of the time, I devoted to testing trucks (fortunately, good developers have provided a secret code that allowed you to choose any dreadnought) and leisurely riding around the world. An eight-wheeled all-terrain vehicle with two steering axles and a huge track, equipped with a multiple launch rocket system, were especially deposited in my memory.

As for the landscapes, they were impressive. Grass swaying in the wind, reflecting the water surface of reservoirs, deep sky - shaders 2.0 and dynamic shadows made the gaming nature very beautiful and realistic.

In terms of beauty, “Ex Machina” has a couple more tricks up its sleeve. Destructible objects, detailed damage model, ragdoll animation of local residents, environment-mapping, bump-mapping, picturesque explosions and effects.

So, the main question is: "Is it worth waiting for the game" Ex Machina "?" Definitely worth it. Worth, because of the original plot, almost unlimited freedom of action, interesting and dangerous adventure quests, well, because of the graphics, not least.

You would at least cram your scribble into one post, otherwise it seems from the outside that you are just winding up a counter :)

Yes, yes, that's just in the "developer diaries" they wrote that they abandoned one och. cool idea to shove a snowy northern country with the ruins of the Kremlin and a secret in the form of the headquarters of the developers. It's a pity, I would play for the Kremlin alone, maybe I would play!
