Bekmambetov certainly knows how to shoot action
Review of the film "Devyatayev""A favorite city, melting in a blue piece of ice. A familiar house, a green garden and a gentle look" ....
This is a story about an undoubtedly glorious and great feat. How a group of Soviet prisoners of war was able to hijack a German bomb carrier from a top-secret Nazi missile range located on the island of Usedom.
Timur Bekmambetov is probably the strangest of all commercially successful Russian directors. He shot commercials as films, films as commercials, even good action films. But he managed to work with a military theme for the first time. And the director decided to tell a story about Mikhail Devyatayev. This man was able to escape from German captivity on a hijacked plane. Sounds truly cinematic, doesn't it?
Bekmambetov certainly knows how to shoot action. And put visual content above content. Therefore, it is proposed to look rather at a fantasy inspired by real events, a kind of comic strip.
Priluchny plays quite convincingly, his hero wants to believe and empathize, even knowing how everything will end. It exists perfectly in the existing scenario. It is as dynamic as it is absurd. If you move away from real events, then pleasure is guaranteed.
