There in the journal will be a task to research a new race. Lasts 180 days, sex for this can communicate with civilization. Or you can wait and civilization can do this research from its side.

Well, yes, I also studied other races. but on one of my systems, some unknown station of an unidentified empire, and pressing to study me throws into the journal there the mandate to study the remaining races (and there is no button to study) and something else. I can't even attack them
