Blanket "AUTO HEAT" — Toyota Harrier, 2.2 liter, 2000

   Toyota Harrier 22 2000

On the advice of friends, as well as from personal experience of starting the car in the morning in the cold, I decided to give Kharkiv a blanket for the engine - AUTO HEAT. It is made from non-flammable material. Size - 11. Fits into the engine compartment very well ... I'm waiting for comments, as well as reviews from drivers who have already used it. :)

it doesn’t look bad, but how did you put it on the left side of the engine where the drive belts are, the blanket can slide on them.

it is about 2-3 centimeters thick, if you do not compress it, it will not slide off so easily, besides, it is pressed against the bonnet in some places!

it is up to 1500 degrees. Such a temperature is reached only inside the engine itself at the time of the explosion of the mixture

To close it definitely will not close, I always think only about ignition.

the fabric is made of fiberglass, like the cotton wool inside, and the threads with which it is all stitched. it does not burn and does not explode, does not conduct current, unless, of course, a bucket of water is poured from above, and even if it somehow gets wet in winter, how can it close with a battery plus, for example, although if you have seen enough of the "destination" it is still not in your head it will climb :) but the opinion of those who have already used it is very interesting, so far I have been exploiting it for 4 days in total, everything seems to be ok, it has not yet reached anything moving ...

I was always wondering how safe this "blanket" is, because there is a collector nearby.

yes, it doesn’t burn, it has a patent and a certificate in its brochure, and a conclusion of the SES, and even test data, in general, it will withstand the engine compartment temperature of any car, as I understand it. Sedna checked with a lighter, does not burn, does not melt ...

Well, actually, it looks like it is made of fiberglass and filled with glass wool) So it’s unlikely that any motor will be able to heat up to the glass melting point, which is from 400 to 1200 degrees above zero. We also know from the course of physics that glass is a dielectric and is not capable of conducting current, except perhaps an electrical breakdown when struck by lightning. Well, who else will ask.))

Well, for now, I can say for sure that it hasn’t caught fire :) As for how much it keeps heat, I think it does, but it could be better if the bottom was also closed at least with crankcase protection, at least with some kind of plastic ... and so the wind walks under the engine ... And here in the unheated garage significantly saves from unnecessary startups.

Well, how does it, there is already experience of use, noticeably retains heat ?!

Yes, it's a good thing. Webasto is generally a cool device, dear damn it really ...

I have such a blanket season skated. It's time to shoot, but I don't want to :-)
The motor really cools down more slowly at intermediate stops (to do some business, eat, go to the store, etc.), it lasts for two hours, after two hours in frosts of -20-25 without wind (special , so light) you start the engine and it almost immediately goes to about. XX, while the battery does not strain at all and the stove almost immediately blows heat.
At night, the engine will certainly freeze under the covers, but in the morning it will warm up much faster (I have a Webasto boiler) - checked.
Under the hood is clean, very effectively dampens the noise from the engine, both in the cabin and on the street (out).
The thing is undoubtedly useful, especially for regions with normal winters.
Next season I'll be happy to put it again :-)
