a bit of history - logbook Toyota Corolla 1986

   Toyota Corolla 13 1986

The first generation of Toyota Corolla appeared back in 1966, since then nothing but the name has remained of this model. But the preservation of the traditional name
allows us to consider it the most massive passenger car in the world, since it has sold over 26 million copies. Around the world, the compact
Corolla (the Japanese market variant is called the Sprinter) earned a good name for its reliability, ruggedness and affordable price (at least
until the late 1980s). This model most closely matched the definition: 'A car is not a luxury, but a means of transportation'. It could be found
everywhere - on all continents, in all climatic zones, from the glaciers of Iceland to the sands of the Sahara. Corolla remained unknown only for our country.
This situation began to improve in the late 1980s, when the first Japanese subcompacts entered the country on barter. These were models of the E9 series of the 1987 model,
a little later, used copies of earlier years of production appeared on the market, including rear-wheel drive models of the 1970s, but they are relatively
few and rarely seen, although they are simple and maintainable in design. These sedans, coupes, station wagons, fastbacks, hatchbacks
and vans are most loved by owners who have moved from old rear-wheel drive Zhiguli.

From 1980 to 1983 The fourth generation of the Corolla is produced.
It differs in a large selection of bodies and configurations. Only sedans were with 2 and 4 doors! All kinds of coupes, hatchbacks, so-called liftbacks,
there were many variations! Station wagon in 4-door and 2-door version.
Also, a limited edition of cars with a convertible body were produced.
Since 1984, the front-wheel drive Toyota Corolla has been produced, but the “combi” and “GT coupe” options still have rear-wheel drive, that is, the classic
layout: the engine is in front, the drive wheels are rear. The following engines were installed on the Corolla of the classic layout: a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of
55 HP and 1.3 liters with a capacity of 64 hp. Engine capacity of 1.6 liters (1588 cm3, "lower" camshaft) with a capacity of 75 liters. from. with 1-barrel carburetor or 86 hp from.
with a 2-chamber, as well as 1.6 liters (1587 cm3) with a capacity of 124 liters. from. with electronically controlled fuel injection. This motor is installed on the "coupe" option.
1.8 liter diesel (1839 cm3) with 58 hp.
By the way, rear-wheel drive station wagons and Corolla vans were produced until 1987. The main engines for them were 1.3 and 1.6-liter carburetors with a capacity of
63 and 75 hp.

The fifth generation Corolla (E8 series), which debuted in 1983, completely changed the 'ideal' concept of this subcompact model, as
it moved from a classic layout to a front-wheel drive with a transverse engine and a simple McPnerson-type candle suspension, which allowed Corolla to maintain
its leading position in market.

The interior and exterior design was made in the rectangular-chopped style, which was so fashionable at that time among Japanese manufacturers. The upholstery of the seats and interior was
made of soft velor.

The family included a four-door three-volume sedan (notchback), a five-door liftback, three- and five-door hatchbacks called Corolla Compact. However,
models with two- and three-door coupe-type bodies still retained rear-wheel drive, but the engine was advanced: a 1.6-liter 130-horsepower
injection 4A-GE. The same power unit was installed on the GT modification of the three-door Compact hatchback.

On other models, a high-torque and smooth-running 1.3-liter carburetor 12-valve 2E engine with a power of 72 hp was used. and a 1.6-liter 4A
carburetor in 78 hp. A sedan with a 1.8-liter 64-horsepower 1C diesel engine was not very popular, besides, Japanese diesel engines of that time did not
start well even at -15 degrees. Mechanical gearboxes, both 4- and 5-speed, were aggregated with all engines with very well-chosen gear
ratios. In addition, since 1985 there have been quite a few versions with 3-band 'automatic'. However, they are quite demanding on the quality
of transmission oil and operating conditions, and it is better not to take such used cars. Models of the E8 series remained in the history of the company as 'transitional',
but their cheap versions have a fairly high reputation, although their corrosion resistance was not yet good enough, and the
1985-1987 models also had thinner body metal.

At least on the hood and trunk - in places of constant contact, as well as on the wings, dents form, in addition, chipped paint and anti-corrosion
coating on the wheel arches, bottom and thresholds greatly age the car.

In both generations of generations, the Corolla had her Japanese Sprinter brother!
it was produced exclusively for the Japanese market, the design was modified a lot and also had more "fat" configurations.
