Chemistry modular optics. - Toyota Corolla, 1.6 L, 1988

So!
I think everyone once wanted modular optics for themselves. So I decided to create one myself, there are no ready-made ones for my car, so I had to invent everything myself. I read a bunch of information in the net and began to create.
To begin with, I removed the form from the headlight using an alibaster (it is stronger)

The preparation itself will be visible in size.
Next is the turn of dimensions, but first we cover up all the cracks, holes with plasticine and with the help of successfully stitched unnecessary business cards we make flanging.

then we cover with something separating, I took furniture polish with wax =)

well after we fill it

the process of laying glass cloth with resin is not there, you still can't find the photos, although there is nothing beautiful there.
We carefully polish the finished forms with wax in several layers with intermediate drying to ensure the removal of the workpiece,
all the data that was on the headlight and on the gauge successfully switched to the workpiece itself, after of course everything had to be sanded,
well, and here's the finished gauge, or rather its exact copy.

further it is necessary to copulate all this, we do it with the help of bolts and eboksidki. Using paper, we mark the preliminary holes for the modules themselves

well and cut holes =)

then it seems like a simple procedure, we select the cylinders of the required diameter! it took me half a day.
and so we insert them and coat them with putty, after the putty hardens, we cover everything with several layers of fiberglass with resin

finally a rough lens fitting

the round holes did not inspire me, so initially it was decided to change them. With the help of scotch tape and resin with filler, we slightly changed the appearance. After that we remove minor defects, skin, prime and

I won't show the finished version on the car,
no, not because I'm a redneck, it's just that at the moment work is underway on the bumper and the installation of everything will be done together.
Koneshno is the simplest option and may not be very beautiful, but it is my personal one, created by the subwoofer himself.

wow, after such a standing ovation, I don’t even get it, Thank you
if you think about it, do not hesitate, do it, there is nothing complicated there, this is how at first it seems there
will be some difficulties, we will always help!

respect! that's cool!
always unrealistically pleased when I see what a person did PERSONALLY with his own hands!

I really want to make a headlamp myself, but I very much doubt that I can

generally cool! respect! fireworks in the sky! spectators give a standing ovation :)

some kind of garbage :(
for some reason I can not put marks in the journal :(

Mdaaa, a serious undertaking ...
Will there be pictures of the final result only in the spring?

G

That's for sure, in the morning he was crawling on his belly in the morning and thought if there was a bumper he had a hard time!

M
Martyn 09.12.20

Well, I think that not earlier than spring, for this weather, a track and pits, you cannot put a normal bumper ...

and what did you make the cylinders from? and how to attach to the body?
I want to experiment with my front optics too

E
El-Matador 09.12.20

everything is already clear;))))

G
GEK 09.12.20

Thanks .
Is the question a little unclear about the cylinders? I inserted a cylinder on the holes of the required diameter and coated it with a putty, and then reinforced it with glass cloth with resin.
To the body, this is already how to come up with =), I have bolts glued to the sides from the inside, there will be a bracket from the body above and below.

G

froggy56

How are they protected from dirt?

I forgot to add, on the front side I inserted glass from the orglass, I first heated the orglass in the oven, then with the help of a vacuum cleaner and a dummy, semicircular glasses were obtained, then silicone and you're done

G
GEK 09.12.20

I sealed open places with tin from beer cans

f
froggy56 09.12.20

How are they protected from dirt?

G
GEK 09.12.20

There are no photos, there are cheap ones at the edges, temporarily, in the middle the lenses are removed from the broken optics for disassembly, these are internal turns - they are homemade =)

f
froggy56 09.12.20

What kind of lenses did you use?

G
GEK 09.12.20

not entirely this is an alibaster, the surface quality turns out to be 4+,
but for removing the matrix from the bumper, I got hot
for small parts it is fine, but it is better to take not gypsum, but the alibaster it is stronger

d
drifter-x 09.12.20

A matrix made of plaster or something? How was the quality?

G
GEK 09.12.20

Thank you, it's a pity that summer ends quickly =)
this year, probably for now

X
Xas 09.12.20

Good job! I tried my best! Your arms are growing out of your shoulders, ok =) Continue too!

G
GEK 09.12.20

I have for the winter, hind feet according to plan =)

X
Xas 09.12.20

At the expense of the summer, you're right =) Today I fiddled with the car in the garage, such a dummy! But the whole winter is still ahead! In winter, you have to generate ideas, and in the summer to implement =)

G
GEK 09.12.20

Similarly, the garage is iron, I wanted to create a hood in the fall, but it got cold quickly, the temperature for the resin is low, there is a high probability that everything will clog up.

X
Xas 09.12.20

Good idea! The advantage of this kind of work is that it can be done at home in a warm place =) But work directly with the machine will have to be done in a Dubak! Unfortunately, there is no garage with heating. = (

X
Xas 09.12.20

That is time to think about the final design =)

G
GEK 09.12.20

epoxy resin =) I
found a cap from my wife from a spirits in a sterling shape, rubbed it with wax and filled it with resin.

f
froggy56 09.12.20

I also do optics. I also want to find lenses for xenon, but so far without result (I took it from 2110 so far. What did you do the turn signal from?

G
GEK 09.12.20

Thickness is about 2mm. it did not deform when heated, I have xenon, its temperature is less than that of a halogen, but I think halogen does not deform it either.
I did the fasteners like this, first I screwed metal plates with holes, and then I took a long threaded rod, cut the ngo into the necessary pieces, glued them onto epoxy with filler to the fape itself from the back side. Thus, a lens on four axes is obtained, so it is easy to adjust the light later.

f
froggy56 09.12.20

Hi, I wanted to ask, what thickness of plexiglass did you use? Does it not deform when heated from headlights? And yet - how did you do the lens mounts?

F
FionbI4 09.12.20

normolek turned out))

Pahanblch

I have the last pictures in my magazine, that's all there is.
In general, I think, just remove the native reflectors and stick in either metal strips, or completely sew up the space under the glass, which, in it, make holes for the adjusting bolts, i.e. as if the headlights would be recessed without glass, and then attach the mask on top, already primed and painted.

www.drive2.ru/cars/toyota...4062246863888265833/#post
here, look at how to do it, but as they say, I've already been in the last century =)

G
GEK 09.12.20

Throw this idea away, trust me!
in order to look awesome, take off the headlight and turn it around, then install the strips as you said, or a sheet of tin with holes for the module and adjusting holes around, while all the modules should stand and do the same turn. After you buy a sculptural piece of plastic and sculpt a normal look. If I did it all over again, I did it that way, the view would be more worthy and less crap later with the installation of modules.

G

Do you already have masks for modules?
if not, it's better to do something else

P
Pahanblch 09.12.20

thanks) I will think so far how to make the fasteners myself ...

G
GEK 09.12.20

I just took from the inside and glued 4 screws around the hole, put the module on them and that's it.
According to the mind, it was necessary to fasten the tin to the body, make holes there, adjust it ... but I don't have enough space there, so I did it like that. The screws are glued to the eboksidka, it keeps dead.

P
Pahanblch 09.12.20

My friend, how did you do the fasteners for the modules, I just can't understand something =) ?!

P
Pahanblch 09.12.20

Thanks again VERY MUCH) Everything is in progress)

G
GEK 09.12.20

you're welcome ;)

P
Pahanblch 09.12.20

In general, the question of turn signals has disappeared) I ordered Hello, under the modules. Thank you very much for your advice and help;)

G
GEK 09.12.20

Pahanblch

and what, it turned out cool)) so and you interfered with the resin with hardness, so it won't dry out after all ?!

but there is a small but!
first, it is better to warm up the resin, stir gently unhurriedly, so that there are fewer bubbles, then, as you fill it, you will need to gently expel the bubbles with a toothpick, you can warm it up with a hair dryer, then they float up.

G
GEK 09.12.20

Yes, I took the perfume cap from my wife, it is half a ball in shape, greased it with polishing wax, diluted the resin with a hardener, you can buy it in household goods in a box and poured it, then aligned the edges and glued it into the cylinder.

these
are what I got

P
Pahanblch 09.12.20

clearly, well, I need to find something as a turn signal =) I will not do it myself for sure.
From Monday I will deal with this whole epic, tk. on weekends, shops with the necessary ingredients and spare parts do not work. In general, for the idea + 100 =)

G
GEK 09.12.20

no, I actually made some glass for myself, took the mold and filled it with eboksitny resin, it gives a yellowish tint, put the yellow LEDs inside and that's it

P
Pahanblch 09.12.20

hmm, well, I still need to figure it out, I have a separate turn signal from the headlight, like a module, or a block) Especially since I bought only headlight modules, without turn signals ... Can I take a round type like on a Vaz-2101?

G
GEK 09.12.20

just do not leave the old turn signal, do everything modular

P
Pahanblch 09.12.20

oh yes, damn it)) just for ... ish, competently and simply = P =) this is really high quality, there is nothing more to say ... Thank you, my friend, for now I’ll think how to muddle it all up in the block of a standard headlight, well, along the way, how can you do without it would have been enough.
For now, I'll try to draw templates for plates on paper.

ooo))) so I have already made the base)))))
these glands with lenses ... (later I will put them in no when the masks are clear) but I didn’t know whether the masks would be perverted from plexiglass ...
