Body welding. — Toyota Corolla Levin, 1.5 liter, 1985
A little bit about yourself. Actually, I'm not alone, there are two of us. We are two brothers. I (Zhora) is 22, Seryoga is 24, we study at SibGiu in the evening, we work as electricians in an electrical installation company in Novokuznetsk. Everywhere together, we also turn the nuts together, for which we received the nicknames Bolt and Screw. There is no experience in such work, like-minded friends from among friends, too, so we are tinkering with cars all our free time. In addition, in Myski, except for drinking, it’s not particularly good to do, a small mining town with a population of 50 thousand people, and wheelbarrow picking is a good alternative. As they say Blue schmuck cars rule! And so we pick on the weekends slowly ...
Boiling and strengthening the body I consider it a mandatory procedure for a car of such years, since all the factory seams, dots are tired, and in some places they completely flew off. This is a long and laborious business, until you clean all this sealant, you will curse everything in the world. You never know what you can do till you try! ))) Cooked what I saw, all factory seams are welded, reinforced in places. The front part is welded, all seams are cleaned, degreased and treated with etching primer (Novol 2K), maybe early, but the car spends the night on the street, bare metal rusts quickly ... I didn’t completely clean everything around, only suspicious or problematic places ... In the engine compartment there is still a lot of work to rip off everything, putty ... But this is a little later. There is still a lot of work in the engine compartment, to rip everything off, putty ... But this is a little later.
I borrowed a trunk from Sylphy for patches at the service station ... Not very metal, it boils hard, but it doesn’t rot)))
I’m tired of shorting the bottom with a drill and buying new nozzles ... And after another snack and climbing into a bad place, I threw the drill, immediately went to the garage behind an old propane tank, it has been standing there idle for 15 years, I decided to make a sandblaster using the very famous link cavewildwind.narod.ru/pesok.html . We cooked it literally in 3 hours without spending a single ruble! Pieces of hoses, clamps, a faucet were found in the garage, I installed plastic tees, household ones from the heating system. The truth smelled this balloon terribly! Smelly gas merged from him, I thought it would evaporate, but not a fig, it stinks for a week somewhere ... at first it was generally horror, the neighbors resorted to complain a couple of times. They say take off into the air!
Of course, it didn’t work right away, somehow strangely it worked, then there was a lot of air, then vice versa ... As a result, I realized what was happening, set it up correctly and it worked! :) Only now the problem is with sand, I won’t save it ...
I decided to sandblast to the metal only in problem areas, where the factory soil is good, I didn’t. The compressor is rather weak, of course, Fubas 50 liters, 265 performance, but with respite is enough. In general, I recommend it to everyone, very simple, cheap and effective!
the condition of the body is very good, mine was very worse, the floors up to the spars on both sides changed
Ugh, ugh, ugh ... Thank God she didn’t have much time to rot, to be honest, I expected the worst ...
So no one put putty on the paint and did not lie down. Although I confess, I thought that you can putty on the acid, but it’s in the engine compartment … which is not so scary. Still just learning)
It’s good to prime and won’t undermine anything, besides, the old paint is ancient.
believe me for a year and a half in a paint job - I did not remove the paint from one detail - and it was raised on it. putty does not adhere to paint. and the soil can lift, it’s not known how the car was painted. it is better to rent business for the day
Ideally yes, I agree. But here they were looking for a compromise. If the paint sits perfectly, then there is no need to rip off to the metal ...
that's right - even I didn't try so hard)) - and clean the paint from the outside unequivocally to the metal
Guys, only respect, having nothing to build such a car. Yes, and Lonchamps can be found for 9 thousand, when ordinary auctioneers ask for 40 thousand for them. Wheels are legendary
I correctly understood that this is one welding machine, the so-called semi-automatic device, which operates in a protective gas environment - carbon dioxide. Right?
And absolutely all the work was done by him?

is it?)
eh) you need to answer by clicking the answer to the comment) otherwise I thought that I didn’t answer.) ) )
In general, we must take it!)
Somewhere in the photo in B.Zh. there are results. In general, under my sandblasting, a powerful compressor is needed. And for 500 rubles, it seems like a sandblasting paint gun. I have not tried it, but they say it can work, though slowly.
show how the sandblaster works, we sell a sandblaster for 400-500r, just hook the compressor, I’ll go buy it myself the other day, write if you’re interested, and the sand consumption is small and the dimensions are like a painting gun.
Yes, the tack points are weak, it was necessary to make small tacks. The 30% point is lack of penetration. And about grinding and boiling again, the same nonsense often happened. Then I began to experiment, use different welding wires, I liked the Chinese one the most, now I loaded the Italian one, but I don’t like it, it’s hard to cook. The quality of welding has also changed a lot after the replacement of carbon dioxide, they brought me food (from which soda is made) and the matter flooded. Although food carbon dioxide is not recommended, since there is a lot of moisture in it, but it suits me much better.
what would you do differently? And what's wrong with the seams? I get it that way too. sometimes even worse, you have to grind and boil again.
Just boiled all the factory seams. Of course now, as I look at these seams, it’s already a shame, now I would have done it differently.
yes guys, did everything "high petya". well done. and where did you get the details on the face from?
