Replacing the timing and related spare parts - Toyota Avensis, 2.0 liter, 2000

After half a year of owning a car, the question arose of how long the timing belt and rollers had changed, because. the knock from the timing side was terrible, it was decided to replace: timing belt, rollers, pump, valve cover gasket, attachment belt and power steering belt.
Also by this time, a problem with warming up the car surfaced, even in summer the engine warmed up for 15-20 minutes, and in the rain it did not reach operating temperature at all. So in addition to everything, a thermostat was also bought.
Of the entire list, only the thermostat was original :)
It was decided to replace all this stuff on one of the October weekends. I invited my friend to help me in this is not an easy matter (on Toyota I changed the timing for the first time). We arrived at the garage, opened the Toyota Avensis operation book and began to study in what sequence to disassemble the car.
Naturally, at first they got rid of the plastic engine protection. Next, they removed all the drive belts from the attachments, a certain crap is delivered by the removal and installation of the power steering drive belt. Well, so as not to interfere with the generator, they also unhooked it. Then, in order not to fill the entire basement with antifreeze, they carefully drained it through the tap in the radiator. After that, the radiator also left the engine compartment for a while, for cleaning, and to drain the remnants of the coolant.
Then everything went as simple as it is described in the manual.
The first step was to remove the engine from the right support, this procedure is not easy, because. there is very little space for this, it was especially difficult to unscrew the support mount from the engine block, in view of the same catastrophic lack of space. Here I had to wield a hydraulic jack, then raising, then lowering the engine.
They removed the valve cover and unscrewed the candle wells of cylinders 1 and 2, because. Oil was on top of the spark plugs.

The thread was smeared with sealant and screwed back.
Then we began to remove the timing guard, looking at the same manual. After spending about 2 hours with it, we realized that it can only be removed by removing the crankshaft pulley and the lower part of the timing case.
At first, for a very long time I did not want to unscrew the crankshaft pulley bolt, but with the help of a long pipe and such and such a mother, I still managed to do it. After that, the pulley itself did not want to be removed for a long time, I had to ask for a puller, after which it was finally removed, and then the entire timing cover.
The belt turned out to be in very good condition, but the rollers looked more like a rattle and were sent to the trash.
Removing the pump was also not the easiest thing, Japanese engineers, so that they ..., made several turnkey bolts for 10 and 1 for a Phillips screwdriver, which I managed to rip off, I had to remove the pump along with the body, and then with a bat for a slotted screwdriver and a hammer carefully fill a new groove and unscrew this bolt.
After removing it, it turned out that the pump is in very good condition, it doesn’t rattle, it doesn’t play, it doesn’t flow, but it was replaced anyway, and put on a shelf until better times.
The next step was to reassemble all parts in reverse order.
First, the pump with the new thermostat already installed there

(the old one rolled up the gasket and squeezed it between the body and the valve, so that it was always open), then the rollers and the timing belt.
catching the marks turned out to be not such an easy task, when the tension roller was released, one of the marks left, which cannot be allowed at all, after a little fiddling, I caught both marks.
Next, put the protective covers and engine mount. After that, my friend dragged a gasket and asked if it was necessary? ... pi-i-i-i-ip ... in general, a lot of obscene expressions - it was one of the pump gaskets. I had to disassemble everything again, that's what carelessness and haste leads to.
Well, in general, all assembly and disassembly procedures are described above.
An unfortunate discovery that I made after removing the timing belt is that the oil pump seal is leaking. :(

While the flow is still there, I'll figure it out in the spring.
The last detail after putting the car on wheels was to fill in antifreeze and put on the valve cover.
Naturally, there were no problems with antifreeze, but with the valve cover - yes.
By overstretching the crankcase breather hose into place, I broke the positive crankcase breather valve,

Again, haste is to blame. I had to screw a bolt into the pipe and plug the hole in the lid with a rag. (At a detailed examination of the valve cover and pipes, it turned out that the engine had once been overheated, because all the pipes and rubber bands had become wooden, the head was changed, it looks like new, but everything else is not.)
So a valve was added to the cost estimate, gasket and pipe.
Replacing the above spare parts is a matter of 10 minutes and I won’t especially paint it)))
That’s how I spent the next big maintenance :))) The water is successful, the antifreeze does not flow and the engine warms up as expected, the noise has become much less :)))

PS: I was very pleased with how the candles looked

Thanks! )))
It took about 1.5 days. Now, according to the knurled, I think, the floor of the operation can be performed much faster. At least 2 times.
It's a pity the pictures turned out a little, the battery on the fotik sat down.
