Corolla history from 1966-2010 — logbook Toyota Corolla 1991

   1966-2010 Toyota Corolla 15 1991

The first Toyota Corolla was released in 1966. It had a rear-wheel drive and a longitudinal engine layout. This layout was maintained until 1984, when the first front-wheel drive Corolla was released. From 1966 to 1997 Corolla was produced in five body solutions - a sedan, a three-door hatchback, a five-door hatchback, a liftback and a station wagon. Released in 1984, the fifth generation Corolla retained rear-wheel drive for the three-door hatchback "GT coupe" and station wagon, while the rest of the modifications found front-wheel drive.

The sixth generation of Toyota Corolla, already fully front-wheel drive, debuted in 1987 in the back of the EE90. From 1987 to 1992 Corolla was produced with four variants of gasoline engines - injection and carburetor 1.3 and 1.6. At the end of the eighties, the first batch of new carburetor sedans in the 90th body was sold to Russia. Excellent build quality and high corrosion resistance of the body made this model popular in the secondary market of our country for many years.

The seventh generation Corolla was produced between 1992 and 1997. The car has become a few centimeters longer than its predecessor, and even in the back seat of the liftback, passengers have become more spacious.

The debut of the 8th generation Corolla took place in May 1997. The new generation with the index 110 was produced in several body styles - a 3- and 5-door hatchback, a sedan, a station wagon, and a charged version of the hatchback - the Corolla G8. This generation of Corolla was so popular with buyers that in 1997 it earned the title of "Car of the Year" in Europe.

The new generation inherited from its predecessor a power body frame, which acquired fundamentally new body panels. Thanks to the new oval, slightly convex headlights and a trapezoidal mesh grille, the 110th Corolla for the first time ceased to be faceless and began to stand out among classmates.

The European version was equipped with gasoline carburetor and injection engines 1.4 86 and 88 hp, injection 1.6 with 110 hp, and a 2.0 liter diesel engine. And with a power of 72 hp. The all-wheel drive version for the Asian market was equipped with a 1.8 injection engine with a power of 110 hp.
