Rubber BFGoodrich — Toyota Land Cruiser, 4.2 liter, 1999
In 2010, I decided to try more relevant tires instead of the shoe …
I tried 2 sets of which I will tell you about.
B.F.Goodrich All Terrain
Actually the best option to start an off-road career.
Of the benefits:
-Easy to sit down on 17 and 16 radii regular drives.
-The offset is the same as stock tyres.
- The height is the same, does not cling to the wings.
-Performs well on asphalt at speeds over 140 km/h -No noise thanks to the
closed tread
-Feels good on sand, gravel.
-Rigid side is not easy to break through with stones, etc.
- The protector allows you not to worry too much about punctures
Of the minuses:
-Closed tread does not effectively remove dirt. On wet clay, wet grass, and in general, something wet is not rushing. Here I will make a reservation. This means that the dirt is deeper than the tread size, if it is deeper, then the dirt clogs the tread and the tire turns into a slick.
In a word, an absolute compromise between asphalt and rare exits from it.
bfgoodrich mud-terrain a/t km2
Then I gave free rein to the jeeper's ego and took the 16-radius discs along the reach that exceeded the norm. Conclusion: they stick out from under the wings and on serious bumps at speeds above 70 km / h the wings catch. But this is perhaps the only imaginary drawback, because. replacing springs and struts with new ones will solve all problems
Among the shortcomings:
-During a sharp acceleration, the tread manifests itself with increased vibration, but only when the pedal is to the floor. After 80 pedal to the floor does not show this drawback.
-INCREASED BRAKING WAY. And unfortunately, due to the high tread and the width of the profile height, which is less than that of its predecessor (and it is a little more at 16 radius than its predecessor at 17 radius), during frantic braking, ABS inevitably works and a squeal of rubber is heard.
- For the same reasons, sharp turns (full and fast steering) at speeds above 57 km/h can cause horizontal drift. This is evidenced by a screech from under the wheel to the outside to turn.
- Aggressive tread retains small stones, which then fly into all the windows of surrounding cars.
Of the benefits:
-EVERYTHING ELSE
-Self-cleaning tread, really self-cleaning.
-You can forget about punctures and tears on stones.
-If you do not sit on the bridges / bottom, you will love to get out of any dirt.
-The protector just like a hungry vampire crashes into all surfaces (well, except for asphalt).
-I traveled at a speed of 170+ km / h, I did not feel any cons in driving.
-Clay-wet grass-rubble-sand-Not the slightest drift at speeds of 80-90 km / h.
Add on tire wear.
bfgoodrich all terrain is close to the road, wear is not much different.
bfgoodrich mud-terrain a/t km2 tires are softer, as a result, you will notice wear during the season, but also not critical in the light of all its advantages.
In terms of consumption:
none of the rubber bands presented increased the consumption, as it was 11-13 liters and remained.
Good excursion. I have been riding BFG AT for a long time, I keep dreaming about MT, but not yet. I hope to make my dream come true in the spring)
I also use BFG. Very good. On snow, A/T is better than M/T. I didn't believe it myself until I tested it.
No, stock spare. In practice (3 years), not a single puncture happened, so I left 4 wheels. In general, I didn’t even measure it, in theory it should stand up.
Did you put MT tires on the spare wheel too? Does it fit into its mounting location under the bottom?
