Grille "Hand Made" — Toyota Corolla Runx, 1.5 liter, 2003
From the moment I bought my Ranks, I thought it was necessary to replace the front grille with something more suitable and interesting. Looking through the price tags for ready-made offers, at the same time flipping through the pictures of my brothers with beautiful grilles, I came to the idea that I should try to do it myself in the likeness of the finished ones)
First of all, of course, I dismantled my own and immediately cut out everything superfluous with a jigsaw.
Then, on the machine, I turned everything that stuck out and tried it on the bumper.
It immediately became clear that the relative grille is very thin and it is necessary to somehow solve the issue with the thickness of the shelves. It was decided to make a model out of cardboard and create all the remaining reliefs using plasticine.
Then, when the form was ready, I began to apply pieces of fiberglass impregnated with epoxy on top, layer by layer (unfortunately, detailed photographs have not survived to this day). When everything was dry, with the help of a grinder and a grinding wheel, everything superfluous was removed and again trying on.
Then correction with the same epoxy, again grinding, preparation and painting. Then it's time for the grid. I took it aluminum, pre-primed and painted white. After I made the fasteners and glued them with a thick layer of epoxy on the reverse side of the already painted grille. Next is the wire cutters, adjusted in shape and here is the result)
Well, just when you do something for the first time, everything seems not very simple))
Are there any more photos? And it is possible in more detail with the creation process, and what problems can I face?
Do it yourself, regardless of the result, it will only benefit! In fact, not everything is as simple as it seems, and I learned a lot of lessons for the future. The next time I did it 10 times faster and better!
It turned out cool =) I think I'll do the same =) In your image and likeness =) I'll throw off the photo report =)
Hello. Please tell me about the grid. How did plasticine behave after a year of use?))) I also want to stir up)
Hello) And how should he behave? After all, it is only a form, and fiberglass provides integrity. I partially removed the plasticine later, but it was possible all, I just broke off))
so if you prime it well, it should probably hold on! And the design depends on the imagination, you did it this way, I did it differently - the main thing is that everyone is happy)
