Engine repair ... - Toyota Vista, 1.8 liter, 1995
When I bought the car, the former owner said that there were no problems with the engine and that it did not bite the oil particularly strongly. In general, the engine ran smoothly and quietly. The fluids were clear and clean. No leaks were observed.
But, given that I sometimes drive more than 100 km a day, and so every day, including weekends, I soon began to notice oil zhor. It took about a liter for 2-3 thousand kilometers. In principle, this didn’t upset me much and upset me, because I didn’t take a new car and still they drove it before me, and didn’t take up a parking space :)
The plans for the car was to go happily ever after, so it was given for inspection by one very good specialist. Conclusion - the occurrence of oil scraper rings. Solution — ordered new original rings from Japan, at the same time all the gaskets that can be reached and valve stem seals (originals). All this came in December winter 2009. Repair, of course, was postponed for "after the New Year." But the weather has taken its toll...
As you all remember, then very strong and sharp frosts hit. I went to bed, it was -22, woke up, it was -35. Here I made a mistake, I tried to start the engine from the alarm key fob. The launch didn't happen. Then he went to start personally, unsuccessfully. For a week of frost, candles were changed, original high-voltage wires were installed, but it did not help. As a result, the car was driven into a warm box for the night, after which it came to life.
But attempts to start the car in cold weather were not in vain, a day later I noticed a puddle of oil under the car and the oil zhor became 1 liter per 500 km. Everything, pipets ... arrived. Phoned the master and persuaded to repair the car soon.
As a result, it turned out that the old crankshaft and camshaft oil seals, as well as the oil pump gaskets (it is located on the timing side), were hardened in the cold. So they gave such a leak. When the engine was opened, traces of wear were found on the crankshaft liners, although the seats on the shaft themselves were in perfect condition. They also decided to change them right away, out of harm's way, so the car stood for another week until the original liners arrived (not even a repair size).
At the end of my “adventuresâ€, the motor was assembled, it was run-in, and for a long time I was happy with its quiet and calm operation.
By the way, the oil zhor disappeared, the engine began to work more smoothly and stably ...
