Shock absorbers under the hood - Toyota Corolla, 1.6L, 1993

The idea was to install shock absorbers on the hood. Everything you need was purchased, namely:
1) Shock absorbers for the boot lid VAZ 2108 (only imported ones are suitable, since domestic ones are much thicker)

2) Nuts М8 (4 pcs.)
3) Bolts for fastening the hood with a low head (4 pcs.)

Of the tools you will need
1) Sockets for 10, 12 and 13
2) Box wrench for 13
3) Electric drill
4) Drill for 6 and 8mm
5) Jack (optional)

Installation process:

1) we take the head 12 and unscrew the lower (far) bolt of the hood fastener.

2) We apply the nut to the inner side of the bracket so that one of the faces, it fits snugly ... does not protrude and mark the drilling point with something sharp. This is done for convenience, so that you can easily screw the shock absorber mount without holding the nut. For me, this place turned out to be at the same level as the far bolt of attaching the hood to the bracket.

3) We drill the bracket with an 8mm drill.

4) We turn back the screw that secures the hood.

5) We take out the shock absorber mountings and insert one of them into the hole, tightening the nut on the other side.

6) We put on the shock absorber on the supplied mount and put it to the wing, after removing the hood support and holding it. A little… carefully raise the hood as far as possible and see where the other shock absorber mounts are… this is the point where you need to make a hole. We mark it.

7) With a 6mm drill we make a hole in the wing.

8) We jack up the front of the car so that the wheels remain on the asphalt, but the distance between the wheel and the wheel arch is maximal.

9) We take the head by 10 and unscrew the upper fastening of the fender liner, then bend it down.

10) Insert the shock absorber mount into the hole in the wing from the side of the soot space. We take a nut and screw it from the inner side of the wing onto the shock absorber mounting thread. Unscrew the 4 wing mounting bolts. Screw the bolts with a low head there. Purchased at a car shop. We fasten the fender liner back and put on the shock absorber, checking its performance and whether there are jambs in operation, namely, whether it clings somewhere to the metal, etc.

11) We do the same on the other side:

The result is:

Shock absorbers under the hood - Toyota Corolla 16L 1993

Pros:
1) Most importantly, it was possible to achieve the operation of the shock absorbers only after opening the hood by 30 ° and higher, i.e. closed, there is not the slightest effort to open it.
2) Convenience. The bonnet support is no longer in the way.
3) Less manipulation needs to be done to access the engine compartment + free hand for anything when opening the hood.
4) You get less dirty if the car is dirty, but for some reason you need to look into the engine compartment. (especially important in the winter season)

Budget:
620r ... if you wish, you can keep within ~ 300r.

they get up like family, as if I saw the beach only yesterday and understood how to do it, but I found the main thing on sale, but it's too late for you

Believe me, I had a decent nAabalsya =) I managed to put mine from the trunk lid and domestic from 2108.
They did not work as I wanted.

You will also have to collective farm with drills or what kind of stock mounts?

Djous 05.12.20

well done. From idea to implementation somehow very little time has passed))) respect.
ZY I myself (by the way to you, too, albeit late) looked at the ebay ala carbon). I will probably take myself in the near future.

That's right! =)
Good luck with your plans.

Hand Made Forever! :) I also want to put amortiki myself, now I'm thinking even harder

When the hood is open, the shock absorber is fully extended. In this position, he has maximum effort and to close it he needs a hurricane wind ... in the event of such a cataclysm, I think there is nothing to do in the engine compartment =)
Ie. keep the hood shock absorbers very dignified.

Amount dimensions (width X height X depth) 470x40x25 mm

+1! Farev collective farm! We ought to be confused too! five!
How is the stopper made there - so that it does not close in a strong wind?
It's really possible to put on 45% - it's not difficult for me - I can make a little effort when opening =)))
ps. - how long are the amorts?

trikman 05.12.20

it turned out cool) I somehow did not even think about the problem of inconvenience with the hood holder))))

I'm glad the info came in handy.
Good luck with the implementation =)

well done))) wrote everything clearly))) we will also try))))

begunok 05.12.20

and we at KIA do similar things :) only there is no need to drill there, there are regular threaded holes, BUT it is more expensive that not only the shock absorber has to be bought

N
NVA 05.12.20

Yes, what grievances, do you, do of course =)
On the contrary, it's nice that my experience was useful.

s
samjdm 05.12.20

no offense if I have such a device, let's say you pushed me to this kind of revision :)

N
NVA 05.12.20

Vooooooot =)
That's why. Unfortunately, I don’t know the construction of your hood.

s
samjdm 05.12.20

how? If you take my car, there the support of the hood from the factory is short and the center of the support is the middle of the hood, although what we argue about, the hoods are different :)

N
NVA 05.12.20

If you fix it there, then the hood will definitely fold =)

s
samjdm 05.12.20

Well, if you take the fulcrum closer to the center of the hood, why not :) why did you knock me on this topic :)

N
NVA 05.12.20

One also held the hood, but it is highly likely to bend it with one shock absorber

s
samjdm 05.12.20

cool! you write real things! and Odim Ammarik does not hold the hood? or if you need to buy one from some kind of jeep or minibus.

v
vampir26ru 05.12.20

on five such really stir up? who will advise what?

T
TREZVEY 05.12.20

and how exactly to calculate so that the amort will fold completely? and if it does not work out, what to do?

V
Veegaan 05.12.20

Impressive))) well done it turned out AHHUENNNNAAA! Took note))))
