The Governor of the state of new York Andrew Cuomo has signed a bill that provides for mitigation of penalties for possession of marijuana. About it informs "bi-Bi-si".
It is noted that now the possession of marijuana will be subject to fines.
It is clarified that upon detection of up to one ounce (28 grams) of the drug people will have to pay a penalty of $50, and if kept from 1-2 ounces is $200. Storing larger amounts of marijuana will be regarded as slightly ugolovnoe offense.
In addition, the document contains a procedure for the removal of a conviction from persons convicted of possession, which in new York is home to about 200 thousand people.
The law will take effect in 30 days.
