restoration of alloy wheels - Toyota Ardeo, 2.0 L, 1999

have long been bought "dream wheels", got very expensive because the condition was very deplorable. which in principle can be seen in the photo.
the discs apparently lay in dampness for a long time, and under the varnish the aluminum crawled to oxidize, i.e. all was in white spiders cobwebs.

since paint well is expensive, and spray paint is cheap but bad. decided to try to polish them.

at first I tried to sand it all off, but the varnish was very durable and gave in to the sandpaper with excessive effort.
so I bought a high-gear "quick paint remover"

splashed her, after 20 minutes the varnish slides off with a bang ...

after removing the varnish, sand the aluminum, starting with 1000 and ending with 2000 skins, all naturally with some water.

after bought felt circles for drills and GOI paste, I decided to polish to the maximum "mirror effect". very long fucking with goy paste and the result is almost zero.

I was saddened. But the guys from the Radical low cars forum advised (for which many thanks to them) the miracle paste Dr. Wax "POLISH FOR METALS".

and ABOUT MIRACLE, literally in an hour the disk almost looks like chrome. the actual effect has been achieved.

trace stage - PROTECTION, tried to varnish 1 disc, and O HORROR, under varnish it became again a dull muddy disc, varnish completely killed all reflections and lameness. well, actually holding on to the surface is very lousy.

(photo on the left without varnish, on the right under varnish) In
general, it was decided NOT to cover with varnish or anything like that, you just have to periodically repeat the polishing as it oxidizes.

in fact, it remains to wait for the transition spacers, and it will be possible to put summer wheels

what kind of rubber weighs no more than 7 kg with a size of 215/45/17?

B
BoberGTT 26.12.20

the disc rays genome gdrilled (outwardly almost the same current there are 3 more holes in each edge. also forging) weighs about 8.5 kg by 17 and rezya no more than 7 is just 215/45/17 for a total of 16 kg. but then 18.

Lem 26.12.20

I mean sanding it by hand?

T
TintoRetto 26.12.20

sandpaper, grain size from 1000 to 2000, with water so that the sandpaper itself does not clog, and it does not scratch the surface in water

L
Lem 26.12.20

And what about sanding? And why do you need water?

Is it really impossible to varnish in a garage environment? I have not found a positive answer anywhere else.

Hello! Didn't find a way to varnish? Is the effect long after polishing? How quickly does it oxidize?

k
kuularmann 26.12.20

handsome! clear discs

K
Kasted 26.12.20

The disks are clear, but I've lost a stub, now I can't find a second year (and it doesn't look very good without a stub? If you know where to get it, write)

every time you get out of the car or before getting into it, I took a rag and wiped it, beauty must be maintained!

F

K
Karpowich 26.12.20

What varnish did you use?

T
TintoRetto 26.12.20

did not varnish. On average, it is enough for six months, then you need to update the polish.
