Perhaps the best and most informative review about my car! (with photo) - Toyota RAV4, 2.4L, 2009

Perhaps the best and most informative review about my car with photo - Toyota RAV4 24L 2009

When I was young and fit, the Toyota RAV4 was also a fun youth crossover, but those days are long gone, I'm not so easy-going, and the RAV4 has changed. Having achieved success, the SUV has grown a chin, puffed out his cheeks and, in general, has sunk a lot, but, unlike me, this does not spoil it at all.

The reputation of a female or youth car noticeably reduces the target audience, so it is not surprising that generation after generation of Toyota has changed the Ravik style towards greater solidity. If the previous car can still be accused of a certain "femininity" or rather unisexuality, then the updated RAV4 is hardly suitable for the role of metrosexual. In principle, not so many changes have happened - models with a standard wheelbase have a different front bumper, a new structure of headlights and taillights, foglights with chrome edging, an original design of a radiator grill and new alloy wheels. In the cabin, too, everything is familiar and familiar. The fact that the trim panel, center console frame and side diffusers are in dark gray does not affect the speed.

Added buttons on the steering wheel - now from it you can control not only the audio system, but also voice commands, the multifunctional display of the dashboard and the Bluetooth Hands-free mobile phone wireless connection system. Not bad, but in the upper trim levels of almost all crossovers today this is a "must-have program", like the AUX line-in, on the Ravik for some reason covered with an inconvenient rubber plug. There would be nothing to write about if it were not for the elongated version, which traditionally moved to us from the States.

Let's start again with the radiator grill - here it is even more "premium", but this is not the main thing. The long RAV4 doesn't just "grow a bum", its wheelbase is increased by 100 mm. The SUV in this modification looks a little like its oldest relative - Toyota Land Cruiser 200, and there is no doubt about its masculinity. 10 centimeters - this small amount was just not enough to please everyone: on the one hand, the dimensions remained reasonable, and on the other, the trunk became "sane" sizes (540 liters instead of the previous 410), but at the same time, the "gallery" is now too tight do not complain, the distance between the front and rear seats has grown from 800 to 865 millimeters.

Folding down the rear seats, you get an impressive cargo compartment, and under it there is also a huge organizer in the floor - such a "shopping cart" any housewife will envy. And it will be impatient to go to the market with a full family composition - and it is possible, even the rear seats moved forward to the maximum leave enough room for older children.

The driving characteristics of the long "Ravik" differ from the usual ones by exactly the same ten centimeters, which is not surprising, because the aggregate base remains the same - a 2.4-liter in-line gasoline engine 2AZ-FE170 horsepower and an archaic 4-speed automatic transmission. The transmission has the same electronically controlled rear wheel clutch, which is triggered at the moment of slipping, and the "forced distribution" button of torque equally between the axles, which is recommended to be switched on off-road. The curb weight has increased by only 80 kg, the power bumpers of any real SUV weigh one and a half times more, so the RAV4 will not “sink” in soft ground faster than usual. Only the geometric cross-country ability suffered, because of the long base, the ramp angle decreased slightly, but since it is still not accepted to participate in trophy raids on SUVs, the difference does not play a special role.

The ground clearance of 190 mm is not the worst indicator among crossovers - you are unlikely to get stuck in the dacha track, however, it is not recommended to exceed the permissible depth: there are no protection from below, only brittle plastic. Generally, the instructions for such cars usually prohibit leaving paved roads and all "mud ability" can be attributed to the category of free bonuses due to the presence of electronic interaxle locking and stabilization system. It is not worth focusing attention on them, it is enough to know that the car is able to continue moving with the suspended wheel, if the other three have something to catch on, it is better to turn on the lock button in advance, and when driving through the "ambush", you need to keep the gas even, not allowing the speed to go down to idle, otherwise the electronic brain will be delayed in response to slipping.

Toyota RAV4 can only be considered as "its territory" on asphalt, maximum - a moderately broken grader, along which, despite the stiffness of the suspension, you can move at a good speed - its moves are enough not to bang your head on the ceiling at seventy kilometers per hour, but comfort is very relative, moreover, in corners sprinkled with sand, the rear axle has time to demolish a little before the stabilization system has time to react.

On the track, the long RAV is a little more stable than the "shorty" - the directional stability in the asphalt track is higher, the comb does not give a nervous tremor to the steering wheel, and in general, the reactions seem to be somewhat "slowed down", which is more pleasing than upsetting. The standard "Ravik" had to be "caught" a little if there were irregularities in the turn. But the lateral rolls almost did not increase. The power of the 2.4-liter engine is enough for moderately active movement, but that drive is no longer there to add sharpness, the D-3 position needs to be used much more often, you will not get the former mischief from the matured crossover. Is it really necessary? In adulthood, it's not solid to rush too much, and the updated and lengthened RAV4 is aimed just at mature people burdened with family, business and weekly trips to the country.

Sales of the updated Toyota RAV4 crossover started on June 15, 2009, the recommended price for the simplest configuration is from 999,000 rubles, the long-wheelbase version is offered in the only Prestige configuration, equipped with a 2.4-liter engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission at a price of 1,391,000 rubles.
