Vibration on 1ZZ-FE and ways to solve the problem - Toyota Will VS, 1.8 L, 2001

Cleaning the throttle valve, KXX and MAF using the example of Toyota Will VS, 1zz-fe engine.
How the throttle valve and idle speed work: The
throttle valve is the regulator of the air supplied to the engine - the more the throttle is open, the more air will enter the engine, respectively, the more gasoline can be burned. This whole mechanism is manifested in an increase in engine speed.

Vibration on 1ZZ-FE and ways to solve the problem - Toyota Will VS 18 L 2001
The idle speed of a modern car is regulated either with the help of a damper (it is constantly slightly open, this is how idling is arranged on the 1AZ-FE engine, on almost all modern Nissan engines (QG18, QG16, etc.), or through a special valve, which lets air into the engine bypassing the throttle valve (such a device on the engine 1ZZ-fe, 1NZ-fe , etc.) Contamination of one of these mechanisms leads to unstable idle speed and vibration.
Why does the damper need cleaning:
During the operation of the car, crankcase gases and dirt particles enter the intake, which have passed through the air filter (the filter does not clean perfectly). The resulting mixture of dirt and oil gradually begins to deposit on the intake wall and on the throttle valve, which reduces the intake capacity. This effect is most noticeable on vehicles with an all-electronic throttle valve. it is the idle speed regulator.
How to check if the damper needs cleaning and how often to do this procedure:
Usually, if we remove the air duct before the damper, we will see a completely clean damper, but all the dirt is hidden on the back side, therefore, to see how dirty the damper is, we need to open it completely. Usually, the damper should be cleaned once every 20-30 thousand km, depending on the operating conditions.
Cleaning process:
First we need to remove the large air duct that leads from the air filter to the throttle valve. The air duct itself is supported by two clamps that need to be loosened. Before removing, make sure all suitable hoses to the duct are disconnected (not on the Corolla).

Now you need to remove the throttle cable, which just opens the throttle when we press the gas. To do this, you need to slightly pull the cable and pull it out of the retainer. It is better to remove the bar marked with a red arrow completely so as not to interfere with the cable adjustment.

Next, disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose. After removal, you need to make sure that the hose is not clogged and that air flows freely through it.

Next, remove the connector from the idle speed controller.

And the throttle position sensor connector.

Now you can remove the damper itself by unscrewing two nuts and two bolts.

Next, place this bracket. It must either be removed or weakened. When you assemble the mechanism, you will first need to put this bracket, and only then screw the shutter back.

Now that the flap is removed, you need to disconnect the antifreeze pipes from it. They are difficult to remove, so you need pliers. Try to rotate the pipes first, and then just tighten.

You can start cleaning. We recommend using an ABRO carburetor cleaner as the balloon creates a good head of the jet, cleans well and is almost cheaper than all the others.

Let's get to work with the idle valve (KXX). It is bolted from the bottom of the damper with three screws.

Having unscrewed it, you need to clean this part. And, of course, clean the part of the damper that opened.

There is another important element for adjusting the mixture in the engine - an intake air temperature sensor and an air meter (a device that determines the amount of air entering the engine). In Toyota, these two sensors are combined. When you clean, stick strictly to the chip, you need to clean it strictly with a jet of carburetor cleaner. The sensors must dry well before installation.

This thread is the air temperature sensor.

These filaments are air flow sensors.

Vibration on 1ZZ-FE and ways to solve the problem - Toyota Will VS 18 L 2001 If, after all these operations, the engine idle speed becomes 1500-2000 rpm, then it is necessary to teach the damper, as described below.

This procedure must be carried out every time the throttle valve is turned off.

Prerequisites before starting the procedure.

1. The engine is at operating temperature.
2. All electronic devices (stove, lighting devices, radio tape recorder, etc.) are turned off.
3. The vehicle is parked on level ground.
4. The gearshift lever is set to the "neutral" position

Description of the training procedure.

1. Remove the battery terminal for 5 minutes.
2. Put on the battery terminal.
3. Switch on the ignition (the indicators on the dashboard should light up), but do not start the car.
4. Wait approximately 30 seconds.
5. Without turning off the ignition, remove the battery terminal for 5 minutes.
6. Put on the battery terminal and start the car.
7. Without changing anything, wait about 15 minutes. The turnover will drop step by step to normal.

I checked these operations myself ... since the engine at idle vibrated strongly, now it's not work but just a song).
if the hands grow from there, then these operations can be done by yourself). you only need to buy a carburetor cleaner)

Thanks for the instruction. It was helpful to brush up on the whole procedure. Only during the procedure did I encounter an unexpected problem. I did everything outside in 15 ° frost - the crankcase ventilation hoses were hardened and torn when trying to pull them into place. I cleaned them with a carbcliner, from interaction with it, the hoses shrank and lost elasticity, although they did not differ in softness before. I had to install oil-resistant hoses from the store, connect them through a plumbing adapter from 8mm to 15mm, and the original ones cost about 1,000 per piece.

1. The flow meter must not be cleaned with a direct stream of cleaner. Since you can cut off the sensors
2. The carburetor cleaner is caustic and they are simply not recommended to clean these threads.
3. When cleaning the PXX, remember to buy a new pxx chamber gasket, since in most cases it is impossible to push the old one back.

Thanks for the instruction. And in services, assholes do not clean the flow meter. Because of this, the problem is not resolved.
Question. How to clean these threads with alcohol? Just pour or rub something?

Thank you very much for the detailed and visual instructions, yesterday I cleaned the 1ZZ Avensis T22 - it switches much softer, it rides more pleasantly. The only thing - I could not unscrew KXX, the bolts were made of some shitty metal - the edges are licked. Neither VD40 nor tapping with a hammer helped. In sl. once I cut it off ...

Eh. A garage is needed for such work.
My Petersburg autumn weather will not allow me to do this on the street!
Thanks to the author! Everything is clearly chewed!

I have a 1NZ mechanical throttle, I regulated it with a KXX valve. I loosened the bolts on the KXX, and
I first set the KXX to the required speed after cleaning so that I had to gas up to 3000 so that the car would drive and the consumption of 15 liters was, then I adjusted it ...

Recently I took a Toyota 1.8 car. and that's what I noticed that when I drive 90-100 km / h, if you turn on neutral, then idle 1300 rpm. If you drive 80, then when the neutral is turned on - 1100 rpm. and if you stop, then 700-800. What is the reason? Maybe they noticed something similar at home.
