How I spent my summer (report on Shumka) - Toyota Paseo, 1.5 L, 1996

How I spent my summer report on Shumka - Toyota Paseo 15 L 1996

I read it, listened to it and decided that my car also needs to be glued, especially since for me music is an integral part of any trip. What it is and what will happen in the end, I did not know. I knew only one thing - that everyone who wants good music does this, so he decided to try it himself. I didn't have any friends or acquaintances who had already done this procedure, so I had to figure it out myself. After a long search, I found a firm that was engaged in gluing "Shumka", but the cost of their work (then they took about 1000 LVL for the whole car - about $ 2000) was so amazing that it was decided to look and stick it myself.
Having taken care of Google with its task, they began to study thousands of different articles and sites. But having studied - it did not become easier. Russian firms refused to send them to Latvia. With Dynamat (I would say, the leader of the western market and the most popular "Shumka"), everything was simpler - an official representative office in Lithuania (you can order and go), but there is another problem - the price. Dinamata set for two doors - 4 strips 90 * 30cm (although I have 110cm doors) came out about 54 HP. Considering that it was planned to cover the entire car, then the result was almost gold. :)) While deciding what to do for a long time, one day I stumbled upon eBay "Shumka" Fatmat. The price immediately made me pay attention and study the "candidate" more deeply. Fatmat turned out to be a direct competitor to Dynamat (auto, champion in car audio in the USA for 4 or 5 years in a row, pasted over with Fatmat), but the price ... in general with delivery and all sorts of other little things (taxes, etc.) came out somewhere around 120-150 $ for 4.6 square meters. Then everything was a matter of technique - an order, two weeks, a package!
The pasting itself is not difficult, but it took me 2-3 months to paste over the entire rear part (from the front sediments to the trunk lid) in one layer (on weekends, an hour or two). It took about one and a half rolls (i.e. about 6-7 square meters). I pasted it a little bit, neatly. By the way, it is glued very easily and on a summer day, you don't need to warm it up with a hairdryer - and it fits easily and evenly.

I am very pleased with the result and plan to continue. By the way, I was very surprised by Pasi's "native" soundproofing :) two pieces of gum about 2-3mm thick under the rear graying, Each about the size of A4, maybe a little more. The same piece where the spare wheel is. And on the rear arches, two on each, but thicker (where 5-6mm), each the size of a remote control from a TV camera ... So we can say that we have a car without any sound insulation at all :))

Even though I like to drive with windows open rather than air conditioning, the wrapping is worth it. Music plays in a completely different way. Moreover, our cars at the plant were deprived of Shumka :)

Well done for the pasting! without Shumkov, it's like driving with open windows!
I made a complete vibration noise isolation last summer!
only vibro in the trunk glued in pieces…
but the interior is solid and vibro and Shumka!
it remains only to remove the tidy and glue it there for complete happiness!
it became very quiet in the car after all the work)))

As I wrote, I could buy STP only if I myself went to Russia and bought it, not a single Russian company sent it to Latvia. Probably because our local politicians built very good relations :) And this one was sent home to me from America and the price turned out not bad.

Why bother so much for the gluing firm?) I will most likely glue STP)

but the regular Shumka is not Shumka at all ... it's something like vibration isolation, its task is to extinguish the resonance arising from the vibrations of the body elements ... that is, the vibrations as they are and will be, but they will not creep into the zone of destruction of materials and a terrible rumble
