12. Podium for sensors - Handmade! - Toyota Sprinter Trueno, 1.6 L, 1998

As I wrote above, oil pressure and temperature sensors were purchased, but since I didn't want to drill the panel to stretch the wires or to fix them, I decided to use the podium. Having fumbled in local govt-tuning stores, I realized that there are podiums, but for smaller sensors and with an orientation for left-hand driver.
After seeing how some Drayvovtsy sculpt body kits, I decided to start making the podium myself, it's good that the resin and staklomat were bought long ago and lay in a dark corner.
Prototyping - the airbag cover was chosen as the place for the installation - since I removed it, then all the wiring can be safely hidden under it. We estimate the vector of the survey and, applied, mark how with what inclination and where the sensors should be.

Next, we take a blank of polystyrene, children's plasticine and a "front panel" (cut out of plastic and marked the outer diameter of both sensors). Then I remembered the modeling lessons - piece by piece - we give the future shape.

Creation of a matrix - I decided to make a one-time plaster matrix.

spread plaster and poured the whole thing soundly from above.

After that I dried the matrix and took out the lid and the layout - everything went well - I thought it would be worse.

The photo shows that there were several air bubbles in the matrix - they were sealed with the same plasticine.
Pasting - smeared the matrix with a release agent, mixed resin and started gluing - made two layers of glass mat.

Later, with the help of light blows with a hammer, the matrix was destroyed and this is what happened, for the first time it was very good - although it can be seen that there are not expelled air bubbles inside - if they come out during sanding, they will putty.

We cut off the remnants of the glass with the help of a grinder and try it on at the installation site.

Later I will add pictures of the painted podium here - and I need to think about the fastening system.
Added a photo of a painted podium, with installed sensors

Handsome! Hands grow from the right place!
But I would arrange the sensors a little differently, under each I would make a semicircle and put them in a row.

Damn, this is a hemorrhoid drain, at first I wanted to place it in semicircles on each one and place it with steps, but the viewing angle of the sensors relative to the driver is large, and our panel is tilted strongly - not to dazzle beautifully, if only to do over the central air ducts ... then it was harmonious - but would have to cut the panel

to be honest, I did not understand much.
Once I did the matrix, I would glue it on it, and not on the blank. then I wouldn't have to skin at least

I pasted it on the matrix, everything is even - but there are places (the transition of plasticine to the lid) - they will need to be taken out a little before painting.
In the photos, the matrix and pasting are from the inside of the sfotkan :))

I think that this is not the kind of information that is constantly needed before our eyes, it could have been done instead of the central grid, but there would have been a collective farm with great losses

Nishtyak turned out, but not far from the driver's eyes?

the process itself is cool, well done, very useful article

mishik174

and the release agent is what and where to get it?

I used it from the bottom jar, bought it in a store where
I also bought resin. I think you can use the upper wax-based polrol (it just dried up by that time)

I'll look at the can in the evening
