Radiator - Toyota Celica, 2.4L, 1984
While there is nothing special to write about ...
Yesterday I took a brand new aluminum, two-flow Koyo 53mm radiator. from RX7, and we will insert it tonight. But the installation process promises to be interesting, I will unsubscribe about it upon completion.
The machine is happy)
UP!
Together with Misha ( Sc0tt ) we take out the old radiator and put it in the trunk. We try to insert koyo, but nothing comes of it. it rests against the pulley with the lower hole
After a little reflection, we attach it to the back seat and rush to visit the Argon driver Roman. We explain to him all the necessary structural changes, namely:
- shorten the pipe at the filler hole and align it;
- make this squiggle straight;
- cut off the top mount;
- well, shorten that very tube of the lower hole.
Roman nods, picks up a grinder and wields it like a seasoned Jedi with his sword. After a couple of minutes, koyo looked like this -
Having shortened all the tubes and machined the holes, he welds them back.
O praise to the great Argon!
Here's what happened -
The ill-fated bottom tube has become at least two times shorter. Moreover, the seams, in comparison with the factory ones, look pretty good....
And these are the remaining extra parts -...
I think the radiator is ready for installation;)
To be continued ...
Actually, a continuation.
It no longer touches the pulley and fits perfectly instead of the old one. It takes up much more space, but this is not a problem at all. The trouble is that with it the hood does not close by about 3 cm (The rib of the hood goes directly to the filler hole. You can move this very hole, the hood will fall by about 1 cm. And where to get another, vital, 2 cm? Not to cut the frame?
It's getting interesting.
Having measured everything again, we decided to cut off the lower fasteners.
They still did not carry any functional load. We take the radiator to Vitalik's garage and saw it a little there, and then level it. As a result, he becomes narrower and, thanks to this, sinks a good centimeter.
But the hood, still stubbornly, does not close.
UP!
Yesterday evening, not without incident, Vitalik and I drove to his garage, in which, by the way, a rather interesting car is being built. Digress a little… I
grab the grinder and cut out a piece of the bonnet stiffener. We try what happened - the hood closes, but it's kind of hard. We look at what is stopping him, open it and boldly cut off a couple more pieces.
That's it, now it closes! There is no limit to joy!
It remains only to seriously secure it and shorten the lower pipe a little, but this will no longer be a problem.
he originally came from there to another creature, but in the end he did not fit. and now I'm trying to screw it into myself.
just koyo doesn't make 53mm radiators. for my swallow, but I really want one)
we will try to do with minimal design changes. she will like it.
collective farmer) huh,
I hope you will curb the appetite of this shining piece of iron regarding the occupied space, not to the detriment of the typewriter ...
