How it drove. - Toyota 4Runner, 3.4L, 1999
Since the suspension was replaced in the winter, testing was delayed until spring / summer. And so, at one of the meetings of the Land-cruiser.ru forum, which then took place on Thursdays, in an area widely known in narrow circles as "nivalend." This place was in Moscow, on a hefty vacant lot, at the intersection of st. Lobachevsky and Michurinsky avenue.
Test track:
Load - 3 people in the cabin / about 250 kg.
Auto:
1.4Runner VZN 185 / 5VZ-FE.
Suspension: Perfomance Products springs (progressive coil 1.5 "lift), Billstein Heavy duty shock absorbers.
2. Hilux Surf KDN 185 / 1KD-FTV.
Suspension: Toyota springs from "Arab" TLC 95, Battlez shock absorbers with adjustable stiffness (set to the most rigid position). + Polyair Springs (Air tanks inside the rear springs.)
3. Mitsubishi Pajero 3 / 3.2 DI-D.
Suspension: standard springs, standard shock absorbers.
The criteria are the maximum comfortable speed on the road.
1. 4Runner - the speed is about 90-110 km / h rather soft, there are no hard closures Springboard flight on all 4 wheels without trim. Further acceleration was stopped due to the end of the test track and considerations of its own safety, i.e. the chassis will hold up faster, but people can get scared.
2. Mitsubishi Pajero 3 - speed around 80. The suspension works quite comfortably, but stiffer than in the 4Runner. Springboard - flight with a trim on the nose. There was no breakdown. At speeds over 80, the rear suspension will close to the bump stops. Directional stability - higher than that of 4Runner (or maybe they didn't gain speed).
3. Hilux Surf KDN 185 / 1KD-FTV. The suspension works pretty tough. Stabilizers crush any roll (possibly tuning). The speed is about 80-90. Springboard flight without trim, on all 4 wheels. There was no closure of the rear suspension with bump stops. On landing, the air bags in the rear springs worked, i.e. breakdown of the "bare" suspension (without Polyair Springs) is possible. Since the cone bumpers were eliminated as a class after the installation of the Poliires, their work could not be verified. The shock absorbers are uniquely sharpened for asphalt, and on the road with turns Surf will definitely leave both Runner and Pajero.
3.1. After changing the adjustments to softer the behavior of the car on the dirt road has changed for the better. Gone are the shaking and hard blows. Comfort speed has increased.
I had a hard time finding this report! I remember what I wrote, I remember when, but I don't remember the topic. Searched for over an hour, but found :)
yes, yes I remember this test :) Surf is my pipelatz.
After this very test, the battlez were supplemented with perfomance springs - a VERY successful combination ...
although the current owner got rid of both Perfomance and Koni Heavy Track (which he replaced battlez after 100,000 km) ...
