Computer in a car or a radio tape recorder ... =) - Toyota bB, 1.5 l., 2001

Many are probably familiar with the topic of building a computer in a car. So - to anyone interested, you can familiarize yourself with my story.

… Some time after buying the car I wanted a normal radio tape recorder. The regular Japanese one did not suit at all - it didn’t play any discs (it was broken), we didn’t have any MD discs, the radio hissed and groaned, even with the purchased frequency converter ... The only salvation was the FM modulator, which I drove with. I watched all sorts of radio tape recorders for a long time, read reviews, until I came across the idea of pccar on the internet - a computer in a car! This is an advantage - it reads all formats, the video loses ... Hard at least 200 GB. bluetooth ... GPS ... In general, it is a very long time to list all the nishtyaki Mona)
At home, I just had an Asus EEE PC 701 4Gb netbook - mostly to sit in the internet in the evening and my wife took to work so that it would not be boring)) ... So the construction began with him computer.

Initially, the panel looked like this:

I planned to move the radio tape recorder down to the place of the cup holders, and put the monitor in a special place. The radio tape recorder acts as an amplifier - all speakers are connected to it. On it, I now use only one function - volume.

Initial Ingredients:
Netbook itself -

Sensis 7 '' touch glass -

Cigarette lighter charger belsis (2Amp) -

Further, the laptop was torn apart and there was a crucial process of lengthening the cable between the monitor and the motherboard. Armed with a soldering iron, a microscope and other pribluds, I spent 4 nights working on lengthening the thinnest 20 contacts =) I first soldered on a printer cable:
this kind of pornography came out:

but in the end nothing worked. Then I decided to solder on the IDE cable for the hard ones in the computer ... In the end, when I finished everything, connected it, turned it on, I could only observe a puff ... and a light smoke towards the ceiling ... the transistor on the motherboard burned out ... I had no limit, I was looking for a used motherboard , asked for repairs, but all to no avail. As a result, a good person was found who was able to replace the transistor with a similar one, and lengthened the loop normally, for which special thanks to him =)
Here are some pictures of the work process:

As a result, this is what happened:

Then I mounted all this in the dashboard. The netbook's carcass lies just behind the monitor.

The sound of the computer is powered through the aux of the radio tape recorder - the standard acoustics of 6 speakers suits me perfectly. In pursuit in the trunk lives a sub noname and an amp for it, which is enough for me too.
The computer is controlled by Windows XP. For control - touch glass. The main program for working with multimedia is centrafuse, through which I listen to music and watch clips. The computer power button and USB connectors are located under the steering column, in the pocket - so as not to interfere.
All music is on an 8GB SD-card in a computer and on removable flash drives.

After half a year of installation, not without the help of one little man, an OBDII device was adapted to communicate the on-board computer of the car and my pccara ... Reading all sorts of parameters from the inside of the car - consumption, speed, coolant temperature, etc.

In addition, I screwed a GPS, a camera, bluetooth to my computer - but for some reason all this did not take root with me, so it was turned off for no reason. Well, in the process I constantly change that thread, modernize ... in general, the project does not stand still. The computer has been working properly for almost a year!

In catching up, a few more photos of how it all works: :)

I took the circuit from compcar, modified it for myself, added a choice of operating modes (from acc, from battery, off) and everything is ok)

I wanted to make a controller, but I don't always turn on the computer when I turn on the car, and I don't always turn it off when I turn off the car.

Thank you all for the comments.

well done! soundly done, without bells and whistles and unnecessary!

I would only add a power controller so that the computer turns on and off itself
