Caliper painting — logbook Toyota Corolla 2001

He drew attention to his calipers and immediately rushed to the eye that they were covered with rust spots.

Naturally, a light bulb immediately lit up in my head and my eyes sparkled. It would be possible to paint it in some original color, but unfortunately there are drums at the back. Decided to just update them. I didn’t buy a rust remover, because. I did not want to disassemble the caliper! That's how I will change the pads, and repaint again. And so far, I really like it! And then, in the same way (without a rust remover) I painted on ED, as a result, the machine drove for 1.5 years, and there was no speck of corrosion on the supparts.
For painting, I had to go to the store. What I bought:
1) Metal brush.
2) 2 cans of black matte paint. (one is enough for the eyes, the second bought a reserve).
3) 650 solvent.
4) skin
5) Construction tape.

Procedure.
First, remove the wheel. We take a metal brush and carefully go through all the places on the caliper or drum. Pieces of rust and old paint are cast at a time. Then we take the adhesive tape and carefully seal the bolts, so that later we don’t suffer with erasing paint from them. We degrease everything with a solvent. Then we paint as usual (I personally painted in 3 layers). We wait until it dries literally 10-15 minutes and put on the wheel.

We do the same with drums. Only after the brush I still went through the sandpaper. I had a lot of brands with them, because. the previous owner also painted them, I had to remove the old paint with a solvent.

On the twisting of the second wheel, I burst the edge on the bologna. Damn, they slipped the Chinese. He broke the bolonnik and scratched the disk. As a result, painted only 2 wheels. Today I will buy a new bolonnik, only maid in russia and into battle! )

The most important thing for those who paint without gluing the disc itself with adhesive tape is not to forget that you can’t go right away, because. the brakes will be very weak. THOSE. if you paint the caliper along with the brake disc, you need to ride a little slowly after painting. We literally accelerate to 10 km / h and gently brake, the paint from the disks itself will move away from contact with the pads.
