Mesh in the radiator grille - Toyota Carina E, 1.8 liter, 1997
While the car is being prepared for painting, I decided to conjure a little with the grille. After the previous owner, her condition was not so hot - cracks, partly there were no fasteners, and other garbage ... All the cracks had to be cleaned of hot glue (in the hands of the motherfucker who decided to glue it in this way) and mentally glued with dichloroethane, good plastic lattice is friends with him. All glued, strengthened and brought to mind …
At first I thought to leave the appearance of the grille as it is, but then I thought, so tune it up!
This is what it looks like stock...
I bought a black aluminum mesh from the BBC, the price is around 300 re, the size is 120x20 cm ... At first I thought to take a large-mesh one, but even it didn’t fit me with its appearance, and it’s more difficult to mold it.
I began to remove the partitions, cut off part of it with my favorite drill with a diamond disc, and part had to be cut with a knife, as there was no hacksaw blade at home, and it broke to go after it to the store (which is 200 meters from the house) ... And now, on one of the partitions, a mounting knife breaks down and...
And I was out of action for a couple of days due to the limited functionality of my left hand, or rather its ring finger, because the knife kindly blew it to me very mentally ... I'll save you from surgical details, but in the future this scar will always remind me of folk wisdom - HOW TO IT DOES NOT itch in the ASS, AND OBSERVE SAFETY FUCKING! :)
But let's return to the grate :)
I broke all the partitions, leveled everything and thoroughly sanded it.
Then I attached a newspaper from the inside and made a rough layout on it, then transferred the outline to the cardboard and adjusted the shape completely.
Luckily, masking tape was at home. We sculpt it on the grid on both sides and on it we draw the outline of the future creation according to the template.
We cut the piece of iron with scissors for metal, leaving an allowance of about one and a half centimeters. Then we bend everything with pliers, we adjust it, and we bend it again until everything falls into place. By the way, masking tape is also needed so that the paint from the grate is not torn off with pliers - that’s right, if someone doesn’t understand :) Gee :)
As a result, you should get such a bullshit :)
In General, after about a couple of hours of picking, THIS was born :) In the last photo, the very ill-fated finger climbed into the frame :)
It’s a pity that the day before I was too lazy to call in and buy putties with soil, otherwise today I would have finally prepared the grate for painting ...
Well, okay, I already deserve beer today, so you read, and I, with a sense of accomplishment, stomped to drink my well deserved prize :)
Well, I hope tomorrow or the day after tomorrow I will finally repaint, and I will tell you everything :)
In the meantime, I haven’t fixed it yet, here’s how I’ll paint it ... And I’ll most likely attach it to a quick epoxy, which goes in syringes, after 15 minutes it gets up with a stake.
But I don’t like the grids in the radiator grilles. IMHO, of course, but plastic grilles still look more aesthetically pleasing. But in view of the fact that they don’t make bars on Karina Imscher and Steiments, then definitely Pass :D
