"Altyn-Emel" state national natural Park. The entry is not entirely free, that is, to get there you can, but with limitations. Entry to the territory is through the village of Basshi. There is a Park office. Check-in at office required, here you pay for the badge and is awarded to you Explorer which you put in your car, it will be your Navigator through the Park and a boarder. In the Park there are some interesting landscapes that one day you can drive around but not interested. This time I chose the mountains of Aktau and they have dedicated one full day.

In spring and Autumn tourists are not allowed to sleep in the Park because the accident occurred a couple of years ago. To protect tourists from foolish steps, the Park management decided to go this route, limiting the time day and night please no. In the summer with no problems allowed, but it is very hot, in my opinion the best time is spring and then fall.

If you went with overnight keep in mind that your guide is near you and feed him nothing. Aktau mountains — the most scenic and unique landscapes in the national Park. This is the bottom of an ancient sea, which once was the heart of the Ili basin. As disappearance of the sea nature has created here the most beautiful gorges and canyons of the vertical walls of the stacked colored layers of rocks: from green and red in the lower part to colorful and white at the top. The height of the sediments reaches up to 1000 m, the major canyons are concentrated within three main log files, elongated top — down for more than 5 km. the Total area of outcrop is about 50 sq/km.

Mountains of Aktau is one of the largest paleontological sites with sediments of the Cenozoic era, of which four are mixed-age bone-bearing deposits since the Eocene (about 50 million years) to the present, and one with imprints of plants. In excavations were found numerous remains of ancient animals that lived during different geological epochs (late Eocene, upper Oligocene, early Miocene, and Quaternary), as the swamp rhinos of brontotheres, crocodiles, shellfish, turtles, giant Rhino, mastodons, deer. A fully preserved skeleton of brontothere and three skulls was discovered during a joint Kazakh — American expedition works in 1995-97 are the first and most complete materials found in Kazakhstan. Judging by the remnants of trunks in prints of leaves, the main vegetation was xerophilous forests composed of poplars, the ancestors of modern Asian poplar, oaks, riparian forests.

Flora Park has about 1800 species of plants, among them, 21 species listed in the Red book of Kazakhstan, about 60 species are endemic and rare forms of Dzhungarskiy Alatau and the ili-Balkhash basin. Of animals living in the Park, 56 species listed in the Red book of Kazakhstan, including 25 species of insects, 3 fish, 2 — amphibians, 1 reptiles, 12 birds, 10 of mammals, including argali, wild ass, Gazelle. The climate of the Park is sharp continental.

The most famous attractions of the Park — dune "Singing dunes" with a length of 1.5 km and a height of up to 130 m; clay mountains cut by canyons — Aktau; Otautau — mountains composed of volcanic rocks.

No, it's one of the misconceptions :) there in the "winter" season the night temperature drops below freezing... although the day can be quite warm.
Usually the "travel" time is the beginning of the spring season when the valley begins to bloom, but even there the heat from +40C to +50C. Then the people there on bikes and travelling, and less opportunity to turn into a mummy because of the damage to the car or property of the wheels.
In Aktau sharply continental climate, summer +40, winter to -30. In death valley probably warm in the winter ?
