To lay low in Nepal. Part 1

By the time we flew from Malaysia to Nepal, our shoulders were almost 2 months of traveling, 6 countries and about 15 000 km by hitchhiking.

To lay low in Nepal Part 1Our route, where the line from Belarus to Malaysia — hitchhiking, and points for flights on the plane

When I was in Nepal, I realized that hitchhiking in this country we drive not decide: the roads are bad and congested, the country is very poor, so everyone wants to get tourist money. In General, we moved to Nepal in buses and minibuses.

Probably, we all know that recently occurred in Nepal several destructive earthquakes, and even with a large number of victims. Affected many historical buildings, collapsed houses. It is difficult to imagine the feelings of the people during such events...

But what appeared before us the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu:

To lay low in Nepal Part 1tourist center

As I wrote in a previous post, in Nepal our aim was to lay low, to be exact – to settle somewhere at the foot of the Himalayas for a month and sit back, watching the mountains, natural beauties, and learns about the lives of ordinary Nepalis.

We have chosen for this is not the original place at the tourist city of Pokhara, which is 200 km from the capital of Nepal. And up to this Pokhara to get, you need to shake about 6-7 hours by bus or van on the main "highway" of the country, which is an endless dusty serpentine:

To lay low in Nepal Part 1on the one hand — the mountains, the other — a bottomless cliff

To lay low in Nepal Part 1we go so not allowed...

Pokhara – a city that in the 60-ies of the last century opened a hippie, and since then this place became popular among tourists. All hotels, guesthouses and restaurants are concentrated along the lake surrounded by mountains. We also wanted to find some secluded place and we found it is a hut on the hillside overlooking the lake:

And here is the cabin:

To lay low in Nepal Part 1one of three rooms — our

Amenities – on the street. We had and outdoor kitchen, where we regularly prepare:

To lay low in Nepal Part 1kitchen-toilet-shower

A carefree existence was overshadowed by unsuccessful attempts to get Indian tourist visa. We had several times to go to the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu for the same congested and dusty "highway". But in the end the Indian bureaucratic machine gave us only transit 3-day visa so we could fly from Delhi to Moscow...

Well, okay! But we had more time to study Nepal — a month and a half instead of one.

Usually come to Nepal to make the trek one of the routes around the Himalayan peaks. We were lazy, so for the whole month out in two day-long track on small mountains that adjoin the lake. Below are some illustrations of those landscapes that opened before us. What are the views in front of those who go to multi-day hikes and climbs much higher, scary to imagine...

To go to the first track, it was necessary to cross the lake:

To lay low in Nepal Part 1

Well and then climb up, looking around and enjoying the spectacular views:

To lay low in Nepal Part 1Peace Pagoda

To lay low in Nepal Part 1rice fields

To lay low in Nepal Part 1

To lay low in Nepal Part 1mount Machapuchare

The second track provided for even more gorgeous views, but the day was overcast, so the mountains we have not seen, but talked to locals and looked again at Pokhara from the top:

To lay low in Nepal Part 1

To lay low in Nepal Part 1entertainment to which queues

To lay low in Nepal Part 1and this is not cheap entertainment, unlike the previous free

In addition, in the evenings we walked along the waterfront, went to cafes and restaurants where occasionally played great live music, looked in shops and bought all sorts of interesting things, a couple of times I woke up early and went to yoga, took part in the festivities, which as in Nepal and in India, a lot of... well, not life, but a fairy tale!

And after Pokhara we visited several interesting and beautiful places, while gradually moving towards the Indian border. But this – the second part :)

In conclusion, this record is a few characters that we met in Nepal.

To lay low in Nepal Part 1in our eyes, one of them robbed a man with a pack of tangerines

To lay low in Nepal Part 1as in India, in Nepal the cow is a sacred animal

To lay low in Nepal Part 1dogs in Nepal love, and even after them there is a holiday

To lay low in Nepal Part 1the snake handler who was trying to beg us for it shows a rather big amount of money, but we got greedy

To lay low in Nepal Part 1the Nepalese girls, who are also not against generosity from tourists

Well done! On duty (merchant marine) I visited those places, not in Nepal, but India and Asia are often present. Always amazed by the people who live in complete poverty, unsanitary, but positivity and happiness in one single person over the edge.

especially driving on their roads ) by the way, when was the last time we went on the switchbacks, I saw a couple of accidents, one of which the bus was half hanging over the abyss, and the second an overturned truck lay on the very brink... well, it's been a trip )

Here is an adventure)))

on closer inspection, it is India bigger, and some Nepalis, we were told, the "are you still in India was not" )

garbage I think it is the same everywhere)))))

b
bakuchelli 24.08.19

yeah, there is no difference) only in India, as we thought, drove more bezbashennye, well, garbage on the streets a little more :)

Z
ZNDZ 24.08.19

Yes, but people are different. I weaned in the fields to live, it can crash) with the rest no problems.

b
bakuchelli 24.08.19

and in the cities) are generally good when there are no big requirements for a household facilities

Z
ZNDZ 24.08.19

No doubt! BUT: I can live in polypharmacy conditions... wife — no. So the price tag immediately rises many times. The same Ecuador in her village I would have gone for a week... one with nature exotic is interesting. But not anymore. This is probably all due to the fact that I grew up in a big city. Any County town after a certain time drives me into depression, let there three times there is a mountain/river/fields.

b
bakuchelli 24.08.19

)) interesting story)
and such "but" if you want, then at least a couple of weeks you can have a great travel

Z
ZNDZ 24.08.19

I thought so too... BUT:
— work not always give 2 weeks straight. not to mention the month
— if you have young children — everything is complicated
— not everyone is ready to live in slums (that I was not myself=)
— can't MOPE around for a long time and homesick after 2 weeks usually)

PS, I have a friend there... unfortunately her parents died, she went kryshak, she quit her job at the Bank, began to take 2 apartments and went to look for themselves on the world... of course, without passing the hat did not happen to find yourself=) finally found a canadian and now live in Ecuador, don't do, nasladytsya life. no kids, no work... I don't know, it's not mine.

b
bakuchelli 24.08.19

actually, not as difficult as it seems )

the tracks around the Himalayas go without special equipment, i.e. in addition to normal health, no special skills are necessary) only money to save for the tickets to Nepal and guides!
so I hope that someday there will be a walk...)

if you read more about the different travels, especially about such when it is done for free (but, for the sake of experiment — here's the story of our friend gelpriboy.ru/index.php/ob...veta-bez-grosha-v-karmane), you know that dreams is not so hard to make a reality :)
so travel to you!

gefest-ac 24.08.19

Dream, just a dream from childhood to travel around the world. To feel, to touch. Something passed Praiano and completely covered. But much more work, unless of course will survive =).

Positive aspects you a lot in travelling.

b
bakuchelli 24.08.19

thank you! want to know incessantly)
so on the plane our finances were not designed — a journey we had nischebrodskoe! however, as usual) and the Mustang far, on a nearby mountain then we were ready to go, and for the same financial reasons... but I hope I will visit)

Pokhara-not at all the end of the world. Tourist town with all the infrastructure for wealthy tourists and normal local airport receiving Boeng737. Of course, for the sake of "dusty brain" you can ride in the razdolbany, dirty, Bouncing the bus the whole day, but for fifty bucks you can fly from the international airport Katmandu😂😂😂. What are You "travelers" did not go further in the Kingdom of Mustang, there is a photo not only one Anapurny can be done, and its three peaks, and on the other hand a couple of 8-thousanders. For Your photo not even need to climb to the neighbouring hill from Pokhara, you can on arrival at the airport in this photo to do. By the way, the Mustang does not get weakened, height of about 4m. meters above sea level, to be sick. But, ten years ago, before the climbing of the peaks, took to Toyota and 4100м.reach. Further, on the border with Pakistan, the roads were not😴😴😴
Good luck in exploring the world✌ I✌✌ to do it or when not too late, just health.

b
bakuchelli 24.08.19

Someone, probably, it is difficult to understand, but it is possible to work and travel. And this journey did not last 2 months, and 4 :)
As for work — I worked, saved money, and then retired and went on this trip and my girlfriend took unpaid leave for 4 months (if not given — too resigned to). Spent for these 4 months $ 3,500 (at the time — the end of 2012 — about 120 000). After that came and went back to work.
In General, nothing complicated and crazy (if only very slightly) — just as you wrote, a love of travel.

D
Dijon 24.08.19

I read your post and my first thought was you are not?or crazy? What do you like to travel-that's understandable. But read -how much did you spend for 2 months?

G
GlamourFly 24.08.19

all such impression when comparing the way it is
in Nepal is clean, and the kitchen is good. And the people are very friendly. Crooks no, we climbed in the night, not scary. They are like ants, all working, and the Indians are lazy, sitting beside the road in filthy rags, smoke and passers-by consider ))

b
bakuchelli 24.08.19

well, Yes — the same impression), although there we only 3 days were

G
GlamourFly 24.08.19

I was in India than in Nepal... how would so gently say... well, just there all messy, not tasty, no hospitality

b

K

gloom and unsanitary conditions, KMK. But in General, Yes, travel is very cool
