Install periscope — logbook Toyota Corolla 1999
We were preparing for a trip to Ust-Kamenogorsk. 1000 kilometers there and the same number back :-) I decided to stretch the road for two days with an overnight stay in Barnaul. And yet I wanted even more comfort.
I realized that the moment had come. I climbed into the Internet, read about the periscope system of mirrors. Where can you buy and how much. Someone wrote how well they do without it, and that this is unnecessary foppishness, and besides, it does not add beauty to the car. Frankly, somewhere in the depths of my soul I myself thought so, but most likely out of laziness or pride. Others wrote that it was a very convenient thing. But I decided to drop my prejudices and try. On the manufacturer's website I found the representative's phone number :-) in our city and after half an hour I became the owner of this device. Half an hour, because the toad tormented me about the cost of 1200 rubles. But I decided that some exact calculations were apparently used in the design, and nanotechnology in the manufacture (all for the benefit of the people). Having received this system in my hands, I realized that I was mistaken :-) Two mirrors, four suction cups, two mirror holders and a plastic bracket, ugly molded. The cost of all this is not more than 600 rubles. (well max 700)
During installation, I found a substitution. The advertisement promised one direct mirror and one slightly panoramic. To be honest, I couldn’t find the differences between my own, they were both straight :-) I thought it was such a scam that we don’t know how to make panoramic ones. Upset a few, and even for that kind of money. But I decided to put. Having degreased the inner surface of the windshield with alcohol, I screwed the mirrors to the holders, and them to the bracket, all this stuck on the suction cups on the glass. For a long time I adjusted the angle of both mirrors so that I could see the oncoming lane. Then, having traveled a bit through the streets, he adjusted it a few more times.
At first, I was frightened, looking through the periscope - what kind of moron is overtaking me in the oncoming lane :-) But then I got used to it. Although at close distances my system is useless, because the viewing angle turned out to be small. Usually, standing behind a car at a traffic light, I saw through the periscope ... the back of the same car, and that’s all.
ALL the advantage I felt on the track! Yes, it really works! Previously, trucks, vans and tinted minibuses pretty strained me. Now, slightly leaning out 15-20 centimes, I perfectly saw what was happening in the oncoming lane in the distance. The main thing is not to snuggle right up close. The mirrors trembled a little, smearing the light from the headlights of oncoming cars and making it difficult to determine the exact distance to them. I glued the mirror holders to the side pillar and the corner of the lower mirror to the dashboard with double-sided tape. Got better :-)
The conclusion is this - you should not jump to conclusions until you try it yourself. By the way, I wrote a letter complaining about the manufacturer's website and they sent me a panoramic mirror! Having tried to rearrange after the trip, I realized that it was inconvenient, it reduces the image, and it became more difficult to determine the distance to distant oncoming cars! Returned everything in the ass and ride happy now. This is how the pickers error helped me in this matter.
This is how it looks like:
This is how it works:
And a couple more examples:
By the way, I already forgot about the money spent :-)
Oh, good luck :-) I'll post more pictures later. (They say it also helps left-handers, though apparently in other situations)
I was most confused in this kit by the rod, the basis of the whole structure. Crooked and suspiciously soft, dressed in a strange shrink fit with folds. Um... what is it? Was it really impossible to take a steel wire of the same section and paint it with powder?
And to your health :-) Vesch is useful, only a little expensive. Here I traveled for several days on my father's Corolla - how I missed the periscope :-)
Thanks for the info, I'll install it today! and then I already started to hate trucks and mikriki)))
I feel comfortable with him :-) And finally, a budget option would be to buy a couple of mirrors on suction cups and build a periscope out of them ;-)
A very useful thing, I wanted to put the same mirror for myself, but with a crisis at work and a lack of money, I forgot, I saw how it works and again caught fire the other day I’ll buy and put it on!
hmm, interesting thing,)
by the way, I also thought about a budget option, about two mirrors on suction cups =D
A good thing. I didn’t know about this (how embarrassing to admit it). Often I go to Altai, and suffer from overtaking. I'm going to put myself something like this.
I also took it for myself ... When I put it on a long-distance once ... It works great ... And I rented it in the city ... Right now I gave it to a friend ... It broke ... And he actively travels ... I don’t really drive in the city unnecessarily ... I took it in 13 for a thousand ... And tae mostly the wife helps instead of rescoping ... :-)
