Replacing rear shock absorbers — logbook Toyota Vitz 2003

I got a knock on the rear shock absorbers, I decided to replace it, since even the original ones are not expensive, 1000 apiece.

Changed on my own near the house:

1. I unscrewed the two upper nuts with 14 wrenches (nut and locknut) holding the rod, located in the trunk along a plastic plug.

2. I unscrewed the nut with a 17 wrench holding the shock absorber from below.

3. Pulled out the old shock absorber, removed the boot from it.

4. I put the boot on the new shock absorber and installed everything in the reverse order.

If necessary, jack up the car, then only for convenience, as well as in order to be able to put the shock absorber without tilting it much.

Bleeding shock absorbers

I did it according to the instructions from the Vitzevodov forum, here is the instruction:

A. Turn the shock absorber rod down and smoothly, without jerking, squeeze it.
B. Lock the shock absorber rod in this position for 2-3 seconds.
B. Holding the rod, turn the shock absorber upside down, fix the shock absorber in this position for 3-6 seconds.
D. After holding the shock absorber in a vertical position, the specified time and smoothly extend the rod to the end of the stroke.
D. Turn the shock absorber with the rod down, pause for 2-3 seconds. and repeat steps A, B, C, D 5-8 times.
E. When you have finished pumping the shock absorber, following the sequence, stop at point D.
G. Holding the shock absorber vertically, rod up, perform a control operation (sharp, but short movements of the rod make sure that the piston moves smoothly, without dips). A well-pumped shock absorber is a smooth piston movement without failures.

After pumping, the shock absorber should be in the working position, with the rod vertically up, until it is fully installed on the car.

Pumping is necessary for the initial check of the performance of shock absorbers. When pumping, the oil and gas are redistributed inside the shock absorber (after storage and transportation), which makes it possible to simulate the operation of the shock absorber on a car, check its tightness and correct operation.
The pumping procedure is not complicated.
For proper pumping, it is necessary to install and fix the shock absorber in a vertical position (rod up). Then make several reciprocating movements: pull out and drown the rod 3-5 times, holding it in extreme positions for a few seconds. Don't put in too much effort. To verify the quality of the pumping done, you need to perform a control operation: drown the rod by about half and make several sharp, but short movements of the rod. In properly pumped and serviceable shock absorbers, the piston should move smoothly, without dips and wedging. On a new shock absorber, a few drops of liquid can be released from the gland area into the area of ​​u200bu200bcontact with the rod - this comes out the preservative, which is applied to the inner surface of the stuffing box to ensure long-term storage in a warehouse of at least 10 years - such a manifestation is not a defect. When pumping, if such traces of liquid are found, they should be removed with a dry cloth and the pumping procedure repeated. New abundant traces of fluid in a working shock absorber should not appear.
