Audio installation part 1 — logbook Toyota Sprinter Marino, 1995

Finally put it on!

For the time being, the sound of a standard Toyota radio was fine with me. Four speakers, a 12-disc CD changer is a good standard. For a long time it was an obsession to create a 5.1 channel multimedia system based on JVC's KD-AVX series with a TFT screen. Why did you want a multi-channel system? Yes, because 5.1 was installed in Ceres / Marino at the factory back in 1992! The option was called the Super Live Sound System and included an amplifier for 6 channels, DSP, component front speakers, a subwoofer in the design of a bandpass.

So, I wanted to repeat all this on modern components using standard SLSS grills for the central, high-speed front (in the door handles) and rear shelf. Stopped by the lack of experience and the high price of JVC. From year to year, the price of top models did not fall below 18-20 thousand rubles. In addition, it turned out to be almost impossible to buy SLSS grills as spare parts on the "existential". So gradually the idea of the reincarnation of SLSS faded into the background.

In 2007, I decided to replace the front speakers and stop there. I chose the DLS R6A model (Reference series) according to the tests. I bribed the high bass potential, the other parameters are also on the level. In general, I didn’t consult with anyone by choice, I was on a business trip in Moscow in March 2007, I bought it for 4500 rubles. on Gorbushka. On the R6A LE with cooler tweeters, I regretted 500 rubles.

May passed, and then, by the way, I found out that in Novokuznetsk, in the south of the region, 250 km from me, on June 2, 2007, EMMA Russia competitions will be held. We pack up and drive in two cars, from Kemerovo — me, Mikhail Kemerdom, Slava Razor. Two more people from the club's TCM were supposed to drive up from Prokopyevsk and Novokuznetsk itself. In addition, Sergey, at that time the owner of a Black Marino with a 4AGE engine, better known under the nickname DRS, was a participant in the competition.

I don't remember in which nomination and how many points DRS scored, it doesn't matter, but the test audition made an indelible impression on me. Channel-by-channel amplification of the front + set delays by pioneer 88 made it possible to build a scene above the hood. It was a revelation. Sub hammered in the back. And all this did not overload the hearing and other senses. A more detailed description of that audio installation of the 2006 version. can be found on the Drome in the forum "Music in the car" forums.drom.ru/car-audio/t51828.html . By the way, DRS has collected an excellent FAQ on car audio there.

After that, I firmly decided to put the purchased speakers on an adult - with vibration and sound insulation. Wires used 1.5 mm2, real copper DLS. Crossovers placed under the left passenger seat. The result made me more than happy. There was a noticeable bass, everyone I told that the head unit was playing was very surprised.

But an unpleasant effect appeared - the rear standard speakers played noticeably louder than the new ones, I had to compensate forward with a fader, but all the same, there was a different coloration of the sound. Until the end of 2007, I experimented with the position of the tweeters, I almost did not feel the difference.

In 2008, I decided to still buy an amplifier and rear speakers. Finally formed the concept of the system:
Genres - different, electronic music New Age, Ambient, Downtempo, SyntPop,
DLS components
Front - high-quality speakers - from a separate 4-channel amplifier
Rear - speakers - from the head unit amplifier
Subwoofer - from a separate 4-channel amplifier by connecting to the bridge (from the same as the front).
Amplifier - 4-channel, with the ability to work from a high-frequency input, with advanced filters for connecting a subwoofer and fronts.
Head unit - standard TSN-5110 (08600 - 00500)
Signal source - standard CD changer.

In Novosibirsk, in August 2008, an MA41 amplifier (Matador series) and 226 speakers (Classic series) were purchased. I installed the rear speakers almost immediately, but the amplifier was postponed until spring. In 2009, I decided on a DLS subwoofer speaker model that suits my amplifier parameters and is able to play in a small volume. There was only one way out - the choice of a closed box case (CL), in which the return is less, but it is easier to make, and the result is well predictable. Ordered via the Internet W310D (Classic series). A ten-inch speaker with a nominal value of 120W is capable of playing in an 18L case of the 3YA type. I decided to level the lack of power with the classic installation for cars with a sedan body - the speaker plays in the back of the rear seat. But here in 2009 I didn’t ask for all kinds of tuning and upgrades - I didn’t do anything about the car in general, and audio in particular. employee at work, with whom I bought amps and dynos, I often asked - Well, how does he play? Yes, that's it, somehow - nothing has been done yet ...

The year 2010 has come. To complete the work, I again ordered a 1F capacitor and a speaker grill through the Internet store. I ordered a case from furniture makers, glued it with carpet, made noise, screwed on the amplifier. Finally fixed the tweeters on the front struts. The sub was ready on the twentieth of May 2010, however, according to the established tradition :-( everything was delayed, and the connection work was completed only in September. My laziness and bad weather in my native Western Siberia this summer are to blame. Besides, I didn’t think that a lot of time is required for broach, laying and fixing the wiring.I tried to do everything “according to the rules” - in the corrugation, power + remote, signal and acoustic wires separately, ties.

In general, September 4, 2010 - the system, assembled by hand from self-selected components, began to play. About 30,000 rubles were spent on components, wires, materials and sound insulation in 3 years. Localization is certainly not ideal - the stage is high, but still there is a tangible link to the speakers. I'm not going to go out of my way for the sake of the stage. Aesthetics in installing tweeters on stands was important to me. Of course, there is still a lot to be done in terms of adjusting filters, auditioning and checking on different material. I downloaded the image and "made" the AudioDoctor2 CD. I understand that the achieved level (I mean the decision to install a separate amplifier and subwoofer) is more than sufficient for me, now I would buy other components, possibly from another manufacturer and more budget, but wires, power, acoustic, I would buy real ones, not imitation from Mystery. For example, A 4-channel MA41 bought as a "growth" and as more versatile, I would replace it with a 3-channel MA31 capable of working with a 2 ohm load on the sub channel, having a phase control, etc. This would give more maneuver in choosing a subwoofer. The rear speakers could not be bought in addition, but the standard front speakers could be put back, especially since there is an idea to turn them on according to the Huffler scheme, when they play only a difference signal.

Interesting points that can be useful when installing car audio in Ceres / Marino and specifically my components, I will describe in the following BZ entries.

Perhaps I'll write an application for the Guinness Book of Records.

But seriously, not only the result is important for me, but also the process. And, if it so happened that you start and continue doing something with pleasure, and not just just to finish it, it doesn’t work ... You have to wait a long time for the result.

Good job. Quality. I also look at the audio preparation in my own, but I'm afraid to get carried away - I like high-quality sound too much.
