Removable tinting: pros \ cons - logbook Toyota RAV4 2008
Main materials:
A sheet of pet film (I used vikupet 1.00x1220x2050mm)
Window film Double-
sided tape (preferably transparent)
How it was done:
When I removed the tint from the front windows, I left a single piece, which I then used as a stencil (you can make a glass stencil by attaching paper to it, but do not forget to leave a margin of a couple of centimeters from the bottom).
Having cut out the PET film according to the stencil of the old tinting, I got a perfect copy of the front glass in size.
I went to the car and checked if the dimensions exactly matched. Then I applied tinting (5% light transmission) and left it to dry until the morning (ideally, it should dry for three days, but I had a sampler, so I didn’t wait so long). The next day I went back to the car to see what the inside view would look like through the tint.
The next day I bought transparent double-sided tape and repeated everything again, in the end I got two tinted front windows.
Five o'clock in the evening - view from the inside:
It turned out quite well, but because I pasted the film on horseradish, then driving with such windows is difficult. Next week I'll give it to the "salon" for tinting, let it be normally toned.
The result of the experiment in rubles:
PET film 1.00x1220x2050mm (enough for 4 - 5 stencils) 687 rubles. + figovenkaya tinting film (the roll is enough for 4 stencils) 150 rubles. + double-sided transparent tape (34 meters) 500 rub. = 1337 rubles.
My opinion:
quickly removed (+)
cheaply and quickly done (+)
scratched (-)
PET film creates an additional glare (-)
if the rear windows are tinted, then the front windows with removable tinting will differ from the rest (-)
in the sun, the tinting seems to be mirror-like (-)
the view from the cabin through the tinted glass will be distorted due to the film not tightly adhering to the glass (-)
Tips:
Do not stick double-sided tape to the side where you have tinted, because. when peeling off the glass, the tinting may peel off from the PET film
If your hands grow out of your ass (like mine :)), then it’s better to give the cut out templates for gluing to a tinting office
Use 1mm thick PET film to prevent its deformation in the heat
PET film has a protective film on both sides so as not to scratch again, when tinting, remove the protective film only from the surface that you will be tinting, and remove the second protective film already during installation

Issue price: 1 337 ₽Thanks for the detailed report! I want to do it myself, but I don't know how. Now everything is clear… ))
At first, as soon as I tore off my native tint … it was unusual, and I raved about the idea of removable tinting … Now I have calmed down, it’s even better without tinting … at least I won’t bother for the winter.
Cool! So in the end, having collected all the pros and cons, is it worth bothering?
Class! Well done!
I'm also going to make a removable tint ... but I don't know where to find this pet film =)
where did you buy it?
To be honest, I don’t advise ... There are too many (-), such as deformation, water gets into the rain anyway, you can’t open the glass normally, the image is distorted due to scratches, and they appear after 5-6 times the glass is lowered ...
Good post, I re-read so much information, and in the end I came to the conclusion that I will definitely do it! 500r is also money, and big! And the windows still almost never open, especially in the rain or snow. Moreover, a friend promised to glue it with a special film on top, transparent, like armor, according to him, everything is the same, only it will not be scratched ... I was convinced by an example. I will do the forehead and before, and then over time and the back, so that everything is the same color :)

Last night the traffic police caught up with the car, they tinted the front windows, I have it "removable" in front, I took it off after a short conversation with the IDPS, but they began to draw up an inspection report in order to get into the salon and measure the "removable tint", I demanded the presence of 2 witnesses , stopped 2 attesting witnesses, made “pet glass†“tonicâ€, the witnesses were a little shocked by such a zoo, they did not measure the car windows themselves, they made a protocol - they measured at night, it was sticky snow, and it wasn’t glass yet, but "shooting", in the protocol he indicated all sorts of shortcomings of the DEPs, "they hung around for more than an hour." 17.02. to the head of the traffic police for a "debriefing", what awaits ?!
And what does it mean. And shooting is not an option? ((

In the same place as PET film, from those who sell all sorts of things for advertising ...
1mm is pretty thick. it won’t fit under the seal :( I think 0.25 is the maximum that can be taken, in theory it shouldn’t deform. As for the loose fit - what if small strips of adhesive tape are glued from below in the corners?
