Overhaul of the bumper (part 2) — Toyota Corolla, 1.6 liter, 1988

In the process, I wanted to create something like an air outlet =)

    2 Toyota Corolla 16 1988

but then he changed his mind, she looked somehow wrong, and then there were a lot of troubles with this appendix.
Next, I started to make a flanging for pouring this case with plaster. To be honest, it was just a crazy idea, right now I wouldn’t do it in any case. But at that time, due to inexperience, and besides, you couldn’t work with tar in the apartment, you had to make such sacrifices.

it turned out five parts, they were fastened together with the help of metal plates 2.5 mm thick filled in them + bolts.
The total weight of the purchased gypsum was 40 kg, and this despite the fact that I tried to fill large openings with something light. There are no photos of the process itself, but believe me, this is such a dirty and nasty occupation that the desire to take a picture disappears completely.
Outcome of this lesson

    2 Toyota Corolla 16 1988

all defects and joints were covered with plasticine, the structure was reinforced on the reverse side with foam and polystyrene. By this time it has already warmed up and the process has moved to the garage.
Rub something with a release agent like wax and go. The first layer is filled with resin, so that the texture of the fabric does not appear.

since it was very hot, I only had time to quickly smear and lay the fabric with resin, while I didn’t take pictures, turn there is nothing interesting =) The
product came out pretty quickly, it took 20 minutes and a hammer, the remains of the matrix looked deplorable. The result made me happy, there were small jambs, but this is garbage, the most important thing is that it is long-awaited

glued partitions into the extreme air ducts

well, after admiring a little more, we send the whole thing for painting

    2 Toyota Corolla 16 1988

I spent almost a month painting it, repainted it 3 times but that's a completely different story =)
The result of this is

In the coming days, I will try to lay out the view of the car along with the new optics.
Thank you for your attention .

=) great job ? with your elevator, it will be more work
when I pulled out the weight from the matrix, it was specifically different, but then it protected the fact that I stuck powerful fasteners there + glued this thing with a good layer of resin, it turned out about the same.

Great job! Super easy, I still can't decide on such voluminous feats, Now I would like to look at all this on a typewriter, but in the end, is the bumper lighter than stock or about the same?

Let's start doing it yourself, you yourself want to look at different bumper methods and designs.

ZlOader 26.01.22

Yes, you are a genius! The bumper is just super =) I want one for myself too =)

I promise to show you soon in my native place, I arrive from work at 19-00, and in the garage there is no light,
I will probably have to wait until Saturday.

Come on, I’ll wait, I’m
already intrigued =) by the
way, while the bumper was being painted, I made podiums on the doors + for tweeters on the racks and on the back of the trunk lid, I pulled the whole thing up and I drive happy like an elephant =)

Respect :)
for me, too, the process will soon go with resin, but I will sculpt inside the salon :)

it's better not to look at this horror

DASIS 26.01.22

do you have a picture of the mounts?

G
GEK 26.01.22

I just answered your previous question a little incorrectly =) I thought it was about the bumper.
It was filmed normally from a blockhead, the most important thing is that there are no negative angles, otherwise it lags behind very well, without any separators. I made 5 parts on purpose, otherwise I wouldn’t take it off in my life.
But this was the first and last time when I made a plaster matrix of such dimensions =)
40kg =)

Aaaaaaaah! Bumper matrix FROM GYPSUM! First time I see this! Didn't think it was possible! How did you not break it when you took it off the blockhead?

Hmm, test, I'm already inspired by the front fenders made of plastic)
and optics)
I think I'll make alabaster, it's stronger and easier for me to get.
But where to find glass mat and resin in large quantities, this is my question.

G
GEK 26.01.22

Optics can be an alibastre, I do not advise wings.
And as for the resin, if you buy polyester, it is usually where auto-fillers, paints and the like are sold, there is also a glass mat for it. If you take epoxy, then it’s more difficult, you need to look for offices that sell it, you need fiberglass for it, it’s usually always available in construction markets.

G
GEK 26.01.22

Yes, this is a fact, no matter
how much I read about matrices from gypsum and how hard it is with them, until I myself tasted this, I did not believe it =)

Z
Zubtech 26.01.22

But now there is a very good experience! )))

G
GEK 26.01.22

It was the first and last time when I made a plaster matrix of this size =)

Matrix FROM GYPSUM ogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogo! ! !
It turned out just great!

b
buffalo bill 26.01.22

super! why did it turn out black, and what did you use as a filler?

G
GEK 26.01.22

The first layer is usually made with a special one-color so that it does not shine through if without painting, but also so that the first layer of fabric does not print.
According to the filler, I took the ashes from paper and cardboard, sifted through a fine sieve and poured into the resin without a hardener, it turned out like homemade sour cream. You can add a lot of things, but it is better to take something very small, such as baby powder, tooth powder, toner from printer cartridges ...

1 month is excellent)
I tormented mine for half a year) maybe if I took it very seriously, I would do it faster, but I’m not sure that I managed it in a month

m
maracorolla 26.01.22

yes, it looks super)) I'm on Golf tuning of the front bumper and so 1 month is gone)

G
GEK 26.01.22

well, in principle, more than mine, although when I was a student, only bunks were on my mind

m
maracorolla 26.01.22

yes, I did it every day without a day off. The student has a lot of time)

G
GEK 26.01.22

yeah, time is sorely lacking
