Judging by the donor, it is quite logical to assume that this gearbox has a very rare option for the S54 in the form of an automatic differential lock.

There are several types of limited slip differentials:
1. DIFFERENTIAL WITH FULL BLOCKING.
An example is the blocking of the center differential on the VAZ-2121. Operated by the driver forcibly. 3. VISCOMUFT.

All this inside is filled with a silicone liquid, which has a high viscosity and fills the body by 80-90%. The unit is not repairable, since the amount and viscosity of the fluid determine the characteristics of the viscous coupling. If fluid leaks, the coupling must be replaced.
4. "TORSEN".
From English "TORQUE" - torque and "SENSING" - sensitive, that is, sensitive to torque. The satellites are located in the body perpendicular to its axis, are connected in pairs with each other using spur gearing, and are connected with semi-axial gears by worm gearing. In the turn, the half-axle gear connected with the lagging wheel turns the satellite that engages with it, it, in turn, rotates the second satellite and the half-axle gear. Such a rigid kinematic connection allows the wheels of the car to rotate at different speeds. The friction forces arising in the worm gearing from the difference in the moments on the wheels carry out the differential lock. The design flaw is the complexity of manufacturing, assembly of the unit as a whole and repair.
5. "QUIFE"
The design is registered under the QUAIFE trademark. The satellites are arranged in two rows parallel to the axis of rotation of the body. Moreover, they are not attached to the axles, but are located in the housing openings closed on both sides. The right row of satellites (there can be from 3 to 5) meshes with the right gear of the semi-axle, the left one - with the left. In addition, satellites from different rows are linked through one row. All gears have helical teeth, the same module and profile angle. The number of satellites and the number of teeth of the semi-axle gear must be related to the condition of assembly of the unit as a whole. When one of the wheels begins to lag behind, the half-axle gear associated with it begins to rotate more slowly than the differential housing and turn the satellite that engages with it. It transmits the movement to the satellite associated with it, and that, in turn, on the half-axle gear. This ensures different wheel rpm in a corner. The S54 was equipped with TorSen mechanisms, in contrast to the older sister E56, which uses a viscous coupling.
I'm going to install immediately after solving a couple of problems - somehow searching for a flywheel for my engine (the whale naturally came with a 3S-GE BEAMS linkage, and it won't sag on my knee), a "mechanical" ECU, well, consumables - a new clutch disc and technical liquids. This box immediately comes with LSD, the S54 were both normal and (less often - an option!) With a lock. Making a bet, I knew for sure that there was a block - since there was a gearbox with Celica SS-III, these cars were equipped with both E56 and S54 - but there was no SS-III without blocking.
