Production of podiums. Part 1. — Toyota Carina, 2.0 liter, 1996
As promised, posting a report on the catwalks!
Of the materials and tools you will need:
- Plywood;
- Electric jigsaw, drill;
- Mounting foam;
— Fiberglass, epoxy;
- Stationery knife,
- Caliper;
- Putty with fiberglass;
- M6 bolts, nuts, washers, screws;
- Screwdriver Set;
- Sandpaper;
- Hangers.
The standard skin would not be able to take 16 dynes, I wanted to raise and deploy the stage, so the decision was made to make cardinal changes!)
We have standard trim.
We remove it from the door, there is nothing complicated
Next, cut off the soldered plastic with a knife, and we get 2 halves
We cut out 4 rings from plywood (marking with a caliper), drill holes for the bolts. Using screws and hangers, we connect the rings together.
We ruthlessly cut the skin, and the metal of the door, drill holes for the bolts.
We fasten the podium to the door and set the upper rings in the direction of the gear knob.
After the direction is chosen and everything is fixed, we remove the podium. And fill the voids with a yellow plate (used for body insulation, it is well cut and easily processed).
Next, we foam the whole thing, and wait for the foam to dry.
We cut off all the excess with a knife, and process it with sandpaper.
We pass large pores and pits with putty
Again we skin and try on the door
We take fiberglass and epoxy and apply 2 layers on the outside and 3 on the inside.
To be continued…
