Winter "slippers" — Toyota Corolla, 1.3 liter, 2009

Winter is coming and we are in sandals.
Today, after a series of ordeals, normal winter sneakers were bought at a sane price.

Over the past couple of days, prices for winter tires in our town began to grow like mushrooms after rain.
From an average price of $65 for a budget one and $85 for a decent one, they went up by $15-20

The purchased wheels cost $75 a piece, which seems to me quite an adequate price for them.

So purchased: Kumho I Zen KW22 Winter in the amount of (of course) 4 pieces. The unstudded version was taken. I'll wait until the average daily temperature drops to 8-10 degrees, and I'll change my shoes.

Here is what the manufacturer lies about them:

• Improved braking and acceleration on icy and snowy roads
• Innovative tread compound provides greater stability on icy and snowy roads
• Sawtooth sipes prevent slippage of the tread blocks, preventing block slippage and uneven wear.

Two longitudinal and wide lateral grooves increase hydroplaning resistance
Shoulder sipes improve handling when cornering. Wider center grooves improve snow and ice grip and braking performance
Sawtooth sipes improve snowy handling; blocks are stiffer for better handling
The offset pattern and snowflake design symbolize the tire's powerful performance in harsh winter conditions.

how can there be a non-studded version of studded tires? =))

NO! the manufacturer would write about this ... but he always specifically writes which tires are studded and which are not ... but about the fact that you can stud and you can not stud, this is nonsense that hucksters say, saving on safety ...

this rubber is not designed to work without studs, for work without studs (and for Europe, for example), special non-studded models are designed ... I have been dealing with rubber for a long time and I know very well such tricks of unscrupulous hucksters ...

The manufacturer has conceived winter tires, which are available in two versions - studded for the northern regions - non-studded for southern regions with mild winters, or for countries where studded tires are prohibited (Europe except Finland, Norway and Denmark).

Yes, I know this very well, it’s just not clear what can motivate you to ride on such tires? it MUST be studded as intended by the manufacturer. if you want to ride a non-studded one, then you need to buy one that is designed to be non-studded ... they have completely different rubber compounds, different patterns, etc. ... A non-studded studded tire will never work properly

Easily, the tire may or may not be equipped with studs, there are seats for studs but they are not installed (as a rule, all rubber comes without studs, but the seller has a kit and equipment for studding, at the request of the client, in fact tires can be studded at no extra charge).

Ok almost convinced. I'll stick the spikes :-)

H.z. I was on tires "under the spikes" but without them I drove for 2 years, during our winters I never felt discomfort, and the tire wear was not great, and all the other parameters for holding the road and braking were quite satisfactory, but this winter I plan to travel around Europe, and there spikes are illegal. To tear them out with pliers at the Romanian or Polish customs is a dubious pleasure. Yes, and it rattles specifically on the spikes.

It is better to spike since such rubber. I also read that driving on rubber without studs, but which is designed for a stud, behaves worse without studs, there is a harder base where the stud screams. Although I think such tires should go longer.

The tires themselves are okay. I looked after myself that year, but I took Conti.

Unsubscribe then about your impressions. Why are you already changing your shoes tomorrow? Because of the low temperature?

I also had an eye on conti (Conti WinterContact TS 830), and I also wildly liked the Semperit IceGrip 3, but the prices for them jumped from $92 per wheel to $138 in a week. As a result, the toad suffocated. Yes, and last year's tires, this one I bought today, even though this year's release is August. Tomorrow I'm going to put on shoes (most likely).

I'll write back, no questions asked. In our daytime, the temperature does not rise above 12, my summer Yokohama is not so soft anyway, and now yours is like a stone, next week frosts at night and the average daily promise is about 8, so I think it's time, and there don't seem to be crowds at the tire fitting .

This morning we had -2, the summer tires turned to stone, I rode like in a cart. I'm going to a tire shop right now.

Have us already day 6-8. This morning it was already 0. I’m pulling everything, I don’t want to erase winter tires, but I need to roll the summer tires already and throw them away.

Yes, the price is quite sweet, it’s a pity that Kumho doesn’t make tires of the right size for my new car.
