Passion for automatic transmission — logbook Toyota Hilux Surf 1994

    Toyota Hilux Surf 30 1994

It all started, as always, unexpectedly, unexpectedly. I went hunting, no, rather, not hunting, but just breathing fresh air and wandering through the forest with a rifle. Well, at the same time, move off the road further, because. horror as the city is tired. Well, the trip turned out to be nothing, it skidded a little, knocked down a dozen trees with a kengurin and a bumper, from which a mark remained on the kengurin. In general, the evening was a success and I returned home satisfied.
The next day, as usual, I went to work, but in the evening, when leaving the working parking lot, the car refused to go. It was driving, but somehow not like that, accelerating very weakly and began to blink O / D OFF on the tidy. The car in position D started moving only from 3rd gear. L and R worked as expected. Slowly having a ride on business and returning home (surprisingly, the surf accelerated quite briskly from 3rd gear) and began to read the forums. And the biggest jamb was that I didn’t think to immediately climb under the car and inspect the box in more detail. From the information on the forum, I found out that the solenoid of the first second gear was most likely dead and, as a rule, this is treated by soldering the solenoid.
Well, since it was decided to climb into the box for one thing, change the oil and wash the filter. Before the weekend, I drove for 3 days either starting from the 3rd or in the semi-automatic L-2-D mode. On Saturday, I picked up the machine, drained the oil, and before unscrewing the oil pan, I saw 2 disconnected and fairly clean connectors. It became clear why the car was not moving. By the way, the self-diagnosis of the automatic transmission showed an error in all solenoids and the speed sensor. Well, since the oil is drained and it needs to be changed, do not retreat, right? The pan was unscrewed after another hour and a half, with great difficulty torn off from the sealant. Having previously taken a warm ATFa shower, I removed the filter and soaked it in gasoline overnight. The filter consists of a fine metal mesh so that the gasoline cleans it easily and well. One solenoid was removed and studied, all the others were rung and showed the same characteristics.
The next day, I washed everything, degreased it and put the pan back on the sealant. Although I had doubts about the sealant for 70 rubles (and for good reason). It was immediately found out why some of the bolts of the box were easily unscrewed - they were torn off. I lubricated the bolts with sealant and screwed them into place (well, somehow they held the sump before that and the oil did not flow). After that, the car was left alone for 2 days to cure the sealant.
After a couple of days, it was not possible to continue the repair, he injured his leg, and as a result, the surf stood for a week.
A week passed, I recovered a little and again took up the typewriter. Filled up with oil. Started and drove a little. The error seems to have disappeared, but oil began to flow through the sealant. Because of his laziness, he began to remove the pan only the next day, when the box lost a liter of rather expensive oil somewhere. But as they say, there is no bad without good. I drained the oil and the oil, which seemed quite light on the dipstick, in fact turned out to be dark burgundy. Fresh oil (6 liters) mixed with what was already in the machine and became this color. The fact is that the oil and the automatic gearbox can be completely drained only by disassembling the entire gearbox and the oil changes, only by partial replacement. In short, 2.5k spent on oil went to a partial flush of the box.
This time I approached the issue of installing a pallet more seriously. A more expensive sealant was bought (I still don’t know how it will show itself), holes were drilled in the box in place of the stripped thread and a new thread was cut for larger bolts. And now I'm looking for where to buy a suitable oil is not so expensive. And then the RFP is not rubber and the budget is already full of holes.
At the moment, the pallet has not yet been installed, I feel that I will wait until the weekend again.

"After taking a warm ATF shower, I removed the filter and soaked it in gasoline overnight."
In my opinion, this is our disease ... Before getting anywhere, the surf guide will be doused, as a rule, with a "non-cold" oily liquid ... I managed to douse it three times for 1 repair, 1. I twisted the engine oil drain plug ... 2. I twisted the automatic transmission filter. 3. I twisted the oil plug in the rear axle … Dad, not embarrassed in terms, told me what he thinks about my repair and the state of his garage … :-D I
forgot the name of a good sealant, I planted a pan on it — then somehow tore it off!

You know everything the same except for the bridge plug, it’s just that a little hot oil doused your hand when you tried not to drop the plug into the used oil container ... Then I washed the garage, since there is water and a drain! On the last photo with a pallet, there is a red sealant, so he himself fell off with the pallet, the pallet was easily removed with this sealant.
