Test: braking distance from 100 km/h — Toyota MR-S, 1.8 liter, 2003
Since the installation of 2-piston mechanisms from BZ-R will be installed in the near future, I decided to measure the braking distance with stock brakes and the degree of their heating after a series of braking from 100 km/h (to compare the results later).
For this, a well-visible section of the road with relatively smooth asphalt and traffic intensity of several cars per hour was chosen. Further, with paint from an aerosol can, he made a line from which he had to brake.
After all the preparatory measures, I carried out a cycle of 5 accelerations and decelerations from 100 km / h, measuring the length of the braking distance and heating the brake discs. To do this, I used a tape measure and an Optris infrared pyrometer-thermometer.
As a result, I received the following figures: on average, the braking distance from 100 km / h was 27.9 meters - a completely normal indicator for a modern car. At the same time, the temperature of the front brake discs increased from 63.2 ° C to 135.4, the rear from 81.2 to 98.8 degrees (I assume that the initially higher temperature of the rear brake discs is a consequence of the nearby engine).
The brake pedal "felt" differently - best on the 2nd and 3rd braking, worst of all (relatively!) On the 5th.
The asphalt was dry, the temperature was +12° C.
This is such a small test:-)
I wonder what will happen after)) we are waiting for the results of the comparative test)))))
That's what tuning does to people! Previously, by the winter they changed tires, oil, candles, well, brushes, and now also pads :-)
I think this is due to the fact that it was rather cool (+12° C ), and the disks did not have time to heat up much after 5 brakings, because. during the time that he returned to the starting point of acceleration, they had time to cool down a little.
The braking distance on a winter track is more related to testing winter tires :-) Which is also good :-)
The next step is to check the braking distance on the winter track)) You inspired me, I'll definitely do it)
We measured the temperature of the disks here after a 10-minute session around the ring, and not immediately, but 10 minutes after the stop - 280 degrees.)
when I put the projectors on that Corolla, I also wanted to measure the braking distance during repeated braking, but alas, I didn’t do it :(
Thanks! God forbid, someday I will get to the ring, I want to continue the topic of measurements and measurements :-) ...
