The car is very different from the vast majority of cars on the streets of our city. Yes, double, yes with a soft top. But this absolutely does not prevent you from using it for every day.

There is no desire to get into a loan (I do not like bondage), therefore this car and the subsequent ones - only for their own money. Perhaps in the summer it will be possible to buy an inexpensive low-volume Japanese city car, but so far this is the only car in the family. Therefore, I drive a car almost every day and in 9 months of ownership hit about 15,000 km.

Now, everything in order. You feel very comfortable behind the wheel. The seat is very comfortable, ergonomics, like all toyotas, are at a height (only for the first week I got used to the fact that the windows are not located on the door armrests, but on the dashboard, under the handbrake). There is practically no electronics - there is no climate control, there is only air conditioning on "twists", electric glass lifts (driver's with auto mode, passenger - without), electrically adjustable side mirrors (but they fold manually), there are no footlights and a glove compartment either, only a central lamp is installed ... Here's a spartan salon. The dashboard is very convenient - three "wells" do not allow glare to appear, the tachometer in the center is a very smart decision, because in summer I practically do not pay attention to the speedometer. As I wrote before, the box on the car is sequential, so there are 2 extras on the tachometer in the center. lights and display - reverse lights, neutral, display for displaying the engaged gear.

I will dwell a little more on the control of the box. The lever itself can be in 3 positions: neutral, reverse and position S, that is, directly sequential mode, in which the switching occurs - towards itself "+", away from itself - "-". Gears are switched only manually, that is, when you spin the engine before the cut-off, the box itself will not go to the increased one. But if you, for example, go to any gear except the 1st, then at a full stop (or movement less than 2-3 km / h), the box itself will "go down" to the first. If you were driving at a speed of 50 km / h, slowed down to 20 km / h and did not lower the gear, you will hear a characteristic sound that you need to turn on another gear. From a place you can get under way from both first and second gear - from 3 and above is no longer possible, the box does not switch - the so-called "foolproof". You can change gears both with a lever and with buttons on the steering wheel - they replace the paddle shifters here. Buttons on the steering wheel - for downshifting, buttons under the steering wheel - for raising. They are located both on the right and on the left - for right-handers and left-handers, respectively. It is fashionable to switch 2 gears at a time without losing switching time. You can also move the gearshift lever to the neutral position, and then back to S and the box itself will select the required gear.

Everything seems to be about the box. There will be questions, ask - I will answer. When asked which is faster: sequential box or mechanics, I don’t know the answer. In Moscow they measured it - like a mechanic, here in Novosibirsk - a sequential one. It probably all depends on the driver and the general condition of the car. But if the sequential is slower than mechanics, or vice versa faster, then it is not at all much, the difference is in hundredths of a second.

Questions about the roof are also often asked. There are no problems with her at all. In summer, water does not get in, even at the sink, when rinsed with a kercher, in winter it is not cold in the car. Perhaps it cools down a little faster than an ordinary car, but when you go - at least take off your clothes before a T-shirt (for the whole winter, and it was -35, out of 4 stove speeds I used only the 1st). And the interior heats up very quickly, because it is small. Recently, I specially conducted an experiment: at -20 on the street in an hour, the temperature in the cabin dropped from +10 to -5 degrees. There is also a hardtop (hardtop) on the car. But they say the difference is small in winter.

The car itself, although it looks small, but for two people, the places are simply heaps of. I am 180 cm tall, if the seat is all the way back, then I will not reach the pedals. And the father-in-law with a growth of under 2 meters in the passenger seat did not feel constrained. The only difficulty is disembarkation, landing, because you sit low, and the doors are quite long. When you sit down, everything is very convenient.

But despite the landing, the clearance in the car is 13.5 cm, which is very decent for such a car. During the winter I never got stuck at all. All due to the fact that, firstly, the car is very light (about a ton with a full tank and a driver), and secondly, the bottom is absolutely flat, there is simply nothing to cling to. This is all due to the fact that the engine is in the back, there is only a radiator in front. From it there are special pipes in the recess. There is nothing else there, the bottom is flat like a boat)) All winter I left on Velcro, and when there was a snowy mess, you could hear the car scratching its belly in the snow, but continues to drive confidently.

There is no point in writing about controllability at all - the mid-engine layout and that says it all. Coupled with this, the 50/50 axle weight distribution allows you to simply screw into turns at incredible speed.

A little more about the service. For the engine, as I said earlier, it is very easy to find spare parts, because this Toyota engine is very common. Suspension, I think, is also not a problem. At least the front levers (complete with a ball and silent block) fit from the Corolla Spasio, Witz and others like them. Oil in the engine needs 4 liters, in a box of 1.9 liters in 5 stupas. box (produced before 08/2002) and 2.1 liters in 6 mortar. But antifreeze will require 8 liters (again, due to the frontal location of the radiator). I don’t know how much brake fluid and fluid in the power steering, I haven’t changed it yet, I’m getting confused closer to summer.
