Trust but verify! — Toyota Hilux Surf, 2.4 liter, 1991
During the restoration of Zver Gorynych, at one of the dismantlings, an oil level probe was purchased in the engine (the old one burned out)
. (experienced diesel drivers, diesel service workers and just diesel owners) said that the piston rings were coked from a long downtime (8 months).
The way out, which was recommended, is to rinse with a decoking agent. We bought Lavr, but never filled it in ...
Then they began to notice that if you fill in the oil according to the norm, it squeezes it out to a minimum, and then stops.
The owners of 2lte measured the probes at our request and in the end we ordered a new probe…
on the old probe it is less than the minimum, on the new one it is already a little more than the maximum!
It turns out that for almost a year we tortured the engine with excess oil, but it works. Once again we were convinced that 2LTE is not such a bad engine! Well done Zver Gorynych!
Do not trust the disassembly by 100%! Check the details!
Issue price: 410 ₽and what will happen to him? He will throw out a small excess through the breather, maximum - sell the oil seals! Oil pump IMHO on the drum, so it's okay as it seems to me!
during the year he showed no signs of malfunction, so we hope that it will continue to be so.
That's the story :-/ The main thing is that the engine has not deteriorated from excess.
so we will have to merge. Or we will wait for a replacement, because it will be time soon.
ps I wrote a couple of questions in a personal, I'm waiting for an answer :))))
Come on. I rolled like this for a week when, when replacing, an extra half liter of oil was poured into me. It was in the fall and I did not warm the car (GAZ31105). And somehow he stood next to the running car and was horrified by the amount of exhaust. Checking the level showed that the oil is 2-3 more than the maximum santimeter on the dipstick. As a result, the oil had to be drained. Now I check everything.
That's for sure. It's just that surfs don't die right away if the system is not working properly.
Murmura
all OK.
We were also surprised at the stories about overheating. Probably the stories about the horrors of rapid overheating are because the engine dies from overheating if they try to cool it with cold liquid (they start pouring cold water, but the cast iron does not like this and cracks (the cylinder head is cast iron, like the engine. )). That is, it is not afraid of overheating, but of rapid cooling
Well, they don’t like electronic motors, because diesel drivers are mostly mechanics, not electronics engineers.
I think the reason here is more simple and banal - the state of the cooling system. It has been said more than once on land cruiser.ru - I bought a car to wash the system and see what condition the radiator is in. If all is well with the cooling system, then there will be no problems with overheating.
mine any engine if you fill in cold antifreeze will crack … Mine started to warm up only after almost all of the antifreeze had flowed out! (pipe burst)
all OK.

2L-TE by the way is a very reliable engine! I drove 2.5 pistons for half a year! For the most inexplicable reasons, he received a reputation for quickly overheating ...
I apologize for not being able to tell you about the length of the probe, but I never saw my engine ...
It doesn't seem to be here, I didn't post it.
if necessary and interesting, then as soon as I’m at the beastgorynych, I’ll take a picture of the engine compartment and show it.
Mmm, I may have missed something, but there doesn't seem to be a single big photo of what's under the hood? Or have I not seen everything yet?
it was more difficult to shove a straight one, it was necessary to get inside. And a curved one is inserted without problems.
according to the catalogs, it is also drawn curved, like ours.
the engine stopped spitting oil.
so we are sure that the new probe is from our 2lte.
and the engines can differ. We have a crankcase along the engine, and on the contract it was across the engine. I had to put the crankcase from the old one on the contract engine.
Hmmm, yes, the engines cannot differ, moreover, Dimka has 2L-TE, and the probes of both are straight, strange.
