2nd stage (Disassembly of the interior and preparation for damping) - Toyota Celica, 2.0 liter, 1990

2- Toyota Celica 20 1990

Finally, the next stage has come.

I'll probably start by reading out a list of expected ongoing work.

1) adjusting the motor and turbine
2) installing a pressure relief valve from the turbine (in European versions, the turbo works differently, the familiar blow-off is absent here as such, there is a different system)
3) changing filters and oil.
4) Replacing the exhaust (from the manifold, it was decided to build a new stainless steel exhaust tract ... Fortunately, on the GT-FOUR, the pipe goes smoothly without distortions and bends.
It was also decided to make the barrel itself from polished stainless steel by hand!

Pros:
a) much quieter and lower exhaust sound
b) Such a muffler will last a very long time.

Cons:
a) pretty decent costs
b) it takes a lot of time to manufacture one

5) Replacement of brake discs and calipers from 205 — body.
Roughly speaking, the calipers will be 4-piston ...

Pros:
a) excellent braking
b) a small percentage of overheating of the brake discs. Discs are ventilated.

Cons:
It will be possible to say goodbye to disks for 15 forever :)
Because nothing else will fit there less than 17 :)

6) Replacing the springs, shorter and stiffer.
7) Replacing the shock absorber struts on the Koni sport
8) Partially altering the interior (it makes no sense, since it will be installed from the red Celica into this one)
9) Installing music
10) audio preparation (damping doors, skins, gluing plastic joints with noise and anti-creak)
11) Repainting the car. (required, because there are small chips from the stones) but what you want, then from a car that is 20 years old :)
12) Installing xenon
13) Installing new optics
To be continued…

The list will be further supplemented, the already passed will be crossed out.

At this stage, there is a simultaneous diagnosis of the engine and disassembly of the cabin and its preparation for damping. As far as you can see from the photos, everything is fine and beautiful inside under the skins, the doors have never been disassembled, all the bolts and clips were easily removed, unscrewed, everything is whole and in good condition. This makes me a little happy :) the machine is well preserved)

In the meantime, made the first order today. I ordered white turn signal repeaters on the fenders...
In the near future we will install brakes... The
car has already been put on 17th wheels, so it will ride on them all winter, again I forgot to look at the brand of wheels :)

It's a fact Pash …
well, my brother has already invested about 6-8 thousand euros in his … =)
a 1987 car … also a Selick … sedan.
I saw her in albums in contact, I think ...
but it’s invested))) well, we didn’t become an exception, but a father ... I would do eclipse like that)))

you make a car for the soul :)
not everyone will decide on such investments in a 20-year-old car ...

No, of course I won't.
I’ll write about the brakes right now, they already exist, but the brake discs are from the 205th Selick, that is, from the 94th year and above, which is GT-FOUR, but the calipers from the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 are 4-piston ...
The jamb is that the thickness of the brake disc is 32 mm, but the thickness of the calipers and pads is 30 mm in total, there is a small chance that the brakes may not work right now, the bottom line is that you will have to grind the pads ... But you will need to try.

As for these calipers, there is an interesting point here, for a regular Selick, they will stand up, but the rim may not sit down and will rest against the caliper, I will throw off the pictures later why exactly it rests. those places we had to undermine. My brother in the Selick has a gap between the caliper and the rim is now 3 mm. But this is with regards to the calipers from the cruiser.
Another interesting point. Disks, after replacing the brakes, you will only put at least the 17th, since the brake disk is huge and the caliper is also impressive (just stupidly smaller disks will not fit)

You may still have to make spacers ... But here everything is individual for everyone. It depends on what rims and their offset. we personally will have to make new studs and order spacers in order to take the wheels out of the arches more, since they turned out to be recessed even on the 17th wheels ... I’ll post a blog on the brakes soon, I’ll write about what’s what. In principle, I more or less described everything.

My brother has already done this on his car. it slows down amazingly, but if you don’t need a powerful motor, I’ll say right away that you feel vegetables instantly, it seems that you didn’t accelerate at all. braking from 2 hundred km / h, my head starts to hurt, strong overloads ...

PS Here's something else I forgot to say ... why spacers are needed ... the fact is that the brake discs from the 205th Selick are quite large and 32 mm thick ... BUT the suspensions of these Selicks apparently differ from the 185th, I did not ask this question, and so with Installing this disk on this model, the disk rests against the ball joint! this point needs to be taken into account, there are 2 options or to give in part of the ball joint, or to put a spacer under the brake disc … now we are thinking what to do better.
I don’t want to put a bunch of spacers, although the spacers are all very light, because. made of special materials :) ) )

I will closely monitor the progress of work because I myself have almost the same plans, especially with regard to the wheels of the tomoz suspension and release. I hope you won’t refuse explanations if necessary?) I will have to do everything alone, because there were no assistants (

Ebay help you :)

and to replace the brakes, in fact, nothing complicated =)
you just need time, place and money, of course …

g
gtdoctor 12.02.22

cool! thanks! changing the brake mechanism is of course zhest! I won't go for it in the first place! but cool wheels are certainly needed like air! I wish I could find somewhere a thread like used HRE!

A
Angry 12.02.22

yes, we also decided to put other disks) it’s impossible to pull out of the arches as we wanted.
need another ET

g
gtdoctor 12.02.22

yeah, time and money are the two most scarce things in our crazy world))) and I already tormented ebay for these disks - deaf ... vaapche deaf ... there are no models, not to mention the necessary 445th!

Well, about less than 17 inches, the wheels won’t fit, of course you bent it … 16 get up there with a bang … at the ADVAN RC 16" disk width 7 offset + 35 PCD 100.00
and nothing, they drive!
