Replacing the trunk lid seal — logbook Toyota Carina 1986
As I understand it, for a month with not much possession of Karina, one of the weak points is the trunk lid seal. By the way, I read somewhere on the Internet about this weakness in the model. The fact is that in heavy rain water penetrates into the trunk. In my case, the seal was torn in several places. As I already wrote, there are no such cars at the disassembly (maybe I was looking badly, I don’t argue). And it is unlikely that a one-year-old would have kept a seal in good condition. So I tried to order from Japan. As you guessed, almost no one wanted to take on this business. The price of the issue is not high, but the procedure is long. Only in one place they promised me to deliver this compactor to Moscow within a month, but its price would be about 2500 rubles. Considering that I was not ready to give such money for a piece of gum, I decided to pick up a similar sealant from our cars in a spare parts store. Taking with me as a sample a cut off piece of sealant, I went to the store. The trunk seal from the Volga GAZ 31029 came up in shape, and from the GAZ 3102 it is completely different. A sealant from a VAZ 2108 (door) would also fit, but it is slightly smaller in height. I threw the old one in the trash and installed the new one. In some places I smeared it with sealant, bought it on purpose, to coat the top of the lanterns. The trunk began to close with a little effort, which indicates its tightness.

So, after I replaced the seal, it rained heavily. What was my surprise that the replacement of the seal did not help. With the help of my father, I managed to find the source. As it turned out, water penetrated into the luggage compartment through the technological seams of the body. On the spot, it was decided to cover the whole thing with sealant. I bought clear sealant. We've covered it, now we'll wait for the result.

thanks) but the problem didn’t rush) my father helped to figure it out. climbed into the trunk with a flashlight, meanwhile I poured water on the glass. as it turned out, it was leaking from under the technological seams (the transition from one part of the body to another). the weather is still as evilly damp in order to smear with sealant. I can combine with anticorrosive.
