Why protect them? I put myself the usual three-millimeter LEDs and in series with each LED a one-kiloohm resistor. A condo will not prevent the LED from burning out if too much current is applied to it.

It goes out smoothly due to the fact that when the power supply is cut off, the condo will give up its charge and the diodes continue to glow for a short time. But after all, your LEDs are connected to a common power supply for all the interior lamps and external dimensions. Therefore, instead of giving charge ONLY to the LEDs that illuminate the automatic transmission snake, it also gives charge to all other bulbs, including the dimensions in the headlights. And you don't need it, do you? Therefore, a decoupling diode is needed, which allows current to flow in only one direction. Those. from the on-board network of dimensions to the automatic transmission LEDs, the voltage will go and charge the capacitor, but when you turn off the dimensions, then the condo will give energy only to the automatic transmission LEDs and will not release current to the rest of the network dimensions!
