Performance (Firewatch)

The game is great, but one BUT. The graphics settings for improving / deteriorating performance differ in principle by nothing (except for low versus the others), fraps fps shows about 40-50, but the game just freezes and jams the sound. Is it an optimization problem or a hardware problem?
Iron: gtx650 1gb, Fx6300, ddr3 8gb
