Game FAQ (Total War: Arena)
1. What is the game like? You control three squads in battle. The goal is to destroy the entire enemy army or capture the enemy base. At the beginning of the game, the weakest first-level units are available to you; accumulating experience, you will pump your squads and unlock new ones, up to level 10. The game features infantry, riflemen and artillery. Also, in each battle you choose a specific commander, each of which has 4 unique skills that greatly affect the style of play and are pumped for experience.
2. Only 3 squads under control ... probably too boring?
At first glance, yes. But then you will find that in addition to the 4 abilities of your general, each unit also has a set of its own unique abilities. All abilities in this game strongly affect the outcome of the battle, so after you level up to stronger units, it will not seem too simple to you, you will not even have time to press everything in time.
3. What stage of development is Total War: Arena currently in?
Closed Beta
4. Is the game free?
Yes, but some in-game items can be purchased for real money.
5. I have a purchased Rome 2. What bonuses will I get?
The developers promised all Rome 2 owners exclusive items in the Legion Armory store and the $ 15 equivalent of in-game currency at the start of the PTA.
6. Will there be a wipe (zeroing of property) after the end of testing?
Unknown.
7. I received a key, how can I start playing?
You need to download and install steam, then register and enter the program. Then at the top select the "Games" pop-up tab, then "Activate on Steam" and enter your key. After the game is installed, you will be asked to register at launch. Register for any mail and password by entering the data and clicking register - the mail and password do not depend at all on your Steam data or the mail to which the key was sent to you. Then login using your login details and you can play.
8. How many factions and what time periods are planned for the game?
Now there is Rome and Greece of the ancient period as well as Gaul. The developers said that there will be a change of eras right up to Attila and, possibly, even before the firearm, but whether this will be so or the developers will abandon their idea - time will tell. So far, nothing has been promised for sure.
9. There are 2 types of experience in the game. What for what?
Blue is a commanding experience. On it you can both study the skills of the commander and the skills of the detachments. Experience is not tied to any specific commander - you can earn it on one commander, and learn the ability for it on another commander.
Green - squad experience. Only the skills of the unit and new units can be learned on it.
10. How to throw pilums?
When choosing a target for an attack, hold down alt.
11. Does donation affect the game? What donation gives?
At the moment, donate does not introduce any imbalance. For donation, you can purchase several unique units, including a Roman cavalry unit of the 4th level - ordinary cavalry is available to Rome only at the 5th level. Also, for donation, you can transfer the experience of units to the experience of the commander, buy silver and paint for the clothes of the units (add colors to the standard ones). The introduction of premium accounts is planned.
12. How does the level of the commander rise?
In the menu for pumping the commander, in the upper right, between the numbers of the current and next level, dots are shown. They show how many more skills a given commander needs to train in order for his level to rise. Learning the next skill is possible only after opening the previous one - so, you will not be able to pump the fourth skill if the third is not yet open. After opening skills, you can learn them in any order.
13. What are towers for?
Towers provide additional vision while captured. To capture, you need to bring the squad to the tower. When the detachment leaves the tower, the capture will be removed.
14. How to install stakes and other structures on the battlefield?
First, you need to buy them. They are bought in the detachment menu outside the battle in the detachment menu, which displays its skills. Slightly to the right of the skills there is a plus sign that opens a menu with additional improvements. For siege engines, these improvements include various defensive structures. To place some of these purchased structures on the battlefield, you must first activate them in the skills menu (after which the pointer will change appearance), and then hold down the left mouse button and stretch them on the battlefield.
15. The ability is inactive. Why?
There are two most common reasons why the ability is not activated in battle:
1. Your general died - this can be understood from his portrait, which turned gray.
2. This ability can only be activated in battle. This means that your squad must fight the enemy, and only then the ability button will light up. If the squad is fighting, but the ability still does not burn, then you need to once again poke the enemy squad with the right mouse button. Because at the moment the abilities "do not see" the battle, which occurred as a result of an accidental collision of two units without an order to attack.
16. I have enough experience, but the commander's skill is not available for pumping. Why?
You need to pump the previous skill in order for the next one to become available.
17. What happens if a player leaves the battle?
His units will be displayed with gray icons and will be available to control all other allies.
18. What do the small triangles (from one to three) mean for some units on the left-bottom of their icon / picture?
Unit type:
1 triangle - light
2 triangles - medium
3 triangles - heavy
Type means "heavy infantry, light infantry, light cavalry", etc. Units of different types receive different buffs / debuffs in different conditions.
Helpful Hints:
- The ballista squad has an ability with which the squad stacks ballistae and moves like a regular infantry.
- Some of the general's skills become unavailable upon his death.
- Using the Roman infantry, if you hold alt when choosing a target for an attack, the infantry will start throwing spears instead of hand-to-hand combat.
As updates are released, the theme will be updated.
