You change the receiver = you change the class.

If you put any automatic receiver on the workbench, then the weapon becomes automatic. This can be done with almost any weapon in the game. Accordingly, the commandos perk will work. If the weapon has a non-automatic receiver, then its own perk will work for carbines, and its own for pistols.
