I work part-time by assembling computers, so I know a lot about hardware and do not shy away from digging into it with my hands and bringing it to my senses. Due to this, more than once I helped my friends - both my own and my parents - to do upgrades + I acquired a good reputation in my native school (in which, again, I resurrected the malfunctioning hardware) :-) I would not say that in this case the computer is empty and a waste of time.

I don't quite agree that the current generation is dumber than the previous one. In any generation there were both "fools" and "smart". And among the current younger generation there are both. These are just stereotypes, but there is some truth in your reasoning. There are several reasons:

1) Excessively long spending of their time at the computer, and mainly at the games. To some extent, I am a person who has seen the end of the time when only the "elite" had computers and the present period, when almost everyone has them. So, comparing these two periods, I can conclude that nowadays teenagers do not do anything other than computer games and stupid surfing on websites. The computer replaces most of them with everything from books to friends. And this affects not only their mental development, but also their behavior in society. A person who sits most of his time on all kinds of forums and chats loses the ability to communicate normally in the real world, with "live" interlocutors.

2) Striving only for material values, spiritual values ​​are not important for today's adolescents, their own inner qualities are not important for them, etc. things. They read almost nothing. All they need now is money. But it is not the adolescents themselves who are to blame for this, but the people who are involved in their upbringing and the factors surrounding them, such as the state. And this is completely understandable, children see what kind of life is in their state, how many people live below the threshold of poverty, how difficult it is to get a job. They see that the intelligentsia (not all of them, of course) lives in poverty, while stupid skin-headed freaks, with 5 classes of education, drive cool cars and buy themselves villas on the seashore. And in the subconscious one gets the impression that money is a decisive factor in the life of every person and nothing else is needed besides money.

3) Parents devote less time to their children, because sometimes many of the parents do not have enough of the salary they receive at one job and they are forced to earn money elsewhere. Hence the lack of time to raise their children. And parental upbringing is a guarantee of personality formation, it is the parents who instill in their children many qualities that, in consequence, allow their children to become real people. I prefer to combine the computer and the book - I read it, stopped, put it off, played / read the forums / talked to the people in ICQ, took the book back ... I don’t forget to my friends, but I don’t get to get together too often. they are mostly busy people ... I go on a visit, I invite them to my place, we gather and go somewhere together ... but still, this is far from every day. And I don't like aimless wandering around the city, although it also happens.
Communication on the forum and in ICQ, administration of CS servers, the role of clan leader and deputy. clan leader later ... Personally, all this, on the contrary, allowed me to communicate and write much more freely in real life - both in Russian and in English, which will be extremely important for me later. And, by the way, one of the events that hit me in the head and knocked out a part of the ambition is connected with the Network and with my being the head of the cs-clan. I am extremely grateful to the person who gave me the boss that time. I then walked for almost a week, thought ... and in the end I became much more serious about many things. So after that moment I can hardly consider the network useless and harmful.
