Its smoothbore 115mm cannon was significantly superior to the rifled D-10T, but it was not originally planned to be installed on the tank. The vehicle was to be armed with a 100 mm D-54 rifled cannon, for which a tungsten-core projectile was developed. But even its power was not enough to effectively combat Western tanks, and the choice of the designers fell on the 115-mm smoothbore gun U-5TS (GRAU index - 2A20). The T-62 was supposed to be just a temporary measure until the Kharkov T-64 was ready, but production continued until 1975, and during this time more than 20,000 vehicles were produced. T-62s formed the backbone of the Soviet tank forces for many years.
Since the T-62 was soon to give way to a more advanced tank, it quickly found itself on the export market: in total, about 5,000 vehicles were sold abroad. The history of the T-62, which sank during the hostilities on Damansky Island, deserves special attention. Having raised and restored this tank, China received Soviet technology at its disposal, which allowed it to significantly modernize its own production.
And in the game, this tank is pretty strong. If we compare it with a competitor in terms of level (M-60 "Patton"), then we can safely say that 62 is better than "Patton" in everything, except for reloading (in addition, it is 1 second less). But this is not a reason to lose heart, because in return we were given a large alpha-strike per shot (damage per shot that you inflicted on enemy vehicles).
