Windows 10 expected massive driver issues
Users who decide to upgrade to Windows 10 face driver difficulties. This was announced by the Russian company DriverPack, based on its own test results of preliminary assemblies of the new Microsoft OS.
As explained in the company, when installing a new system, old drivers will be removed, and the OS itself can not install all the necessary drivers correctly, they say in the company. The DriverPack company releases a utility that helps to automatically install drivers for Windows.
List of problem devices
According to the testers of DriverPack, massive problems with drivers in Windows 10 can occur with sound cards, video cards, hard drives and even network adapters, which can deprive the user of the ability to connect to the Internet, said representatives of DriverPack.
The company has included the Creative Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital, Nvidia GeForce GTX 590, GTX 660, GTX 680, GTX 750, GTX 760, GTX 770, GTX 960 and GTX 970 graphics cards, Western Digital Caviar Black WD5003AZEX hard drive and Qualcomm Atheros AR956x network adapter.
When upgrading to Windows 10, the operating system may incorrectly install the driver for any of the specified devices, as a result of which its operation will be disrupted. For example, in the case of a video card, support for a second monitor may disappear, or the board will operate at 20-30% of the nominal power, the company said.
This is not the entire list of problematic devices - but only those that DriverPack specialists managed to test.
The oldest devices on the list were released three years ago. The sound card is one and a half years old, DriverPack told CNews. The company expects that problems will affect at least 10% of users migrating from Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 10. Old drivers will not work in all cases, experts said.
Microsoft's reaction
Microsoft did not refute the statement of DriverPack specialists. In response to a CNews request for comment, Microsoft said it will continue to work on supporting device and application compatibility.
In most cases of incompatibilities, users will be able to complete the upgrade to Windows 10 or find alternative compatibility solutions in the Windows Store, Microsoft officials said. In some cases, Microsoft promises to provide users with contact information for instructions directly from application vendors or device manufacturers.
